Mac guesting with Ian Broudie\The Lightning Seeds

Postby adders » Mon Apr 07, 2014 11:27 am

Ian Broudie\The Lightning Seeds\Philharmonic Orchestra put on a great show last Friday in the Philharmonic. There were guest spots from Miles Kane, Mac, The Coral and Terry Hall.

Mac seemed drunk to me and did his old shooting out the lights routine, a couple of attempts at kicking stuff into the audience (a bottle top that went nowhere and a plastic beaker which went slightly further), a bit too much rambling on (some of it mildly funny) and his voice wasn't that good on the two Broudie produced songs they did (The Back of Love & The Cutter).

The worst was the encore when he came back on with Broudie & Terry Hall to do Lou's 'Perfect Day'. He mumbled through it, sounded like he didn't know the words and for the parts that Terry Hall sang he kept trying to move his (Hall's) mic back (not sure what he was doing to be honest but if I was Terry Hall I'd have been pissed off with it).

Apparently the entire gig was filmed - he (Mac) needs it played back to him!

I don't normally post anything negative ("WTF are you here then" I can hear you all saying!).

Hope he sorts himself out for next month's Philharmonic gig!

How on earth did the lighting guy get away with all that lighting?

State of this:

Adders, one of the L'pool papers also said the end was a drunken slur. Looked a mess from the video.
Was left speechless after Ian necked the rest of the drink and kicked the cup out into the audience...at someone else's gig...at the Royal Philharmonic. Class.
Looked like he was a bit irritated when Terry started to sing later on, hence the microphone deal. Who knows with that guy. Watched the Back of Love. Also did not think he sounded that great. The new tactics of pulling the mic away and doing that pop thing are so Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera.
Hope they are saving their 'cash for gold' money from the small sales of Asteroids, I mean Meteorites.

Btw, I saw Ian guesting with the last Lightning Seeds show back in '09, I think it was. Put a video of it up on youtube a while back. He had the lyrics for 'Sorrow' on paper in hand and kept gesturing for Ian B. to keep moving up to the front of the stage. Maybe they needed more rehearsals? Looked a bit pony but he sounded a bit better back then. Really like Mr. Broudie and the Lightning Seeds. Got to speak with him after the '09 show and he was lovely.

He does look to be quite drunk. The others look a bit embarrassed, as though they are taking care not to upset him.

Why would they care, maybe if someone did upset him now and again he wouldn't act the arse so much.

Doesn't Broudie look like Pat Nevin.

Sounds like the Bunnymen shows for the past 5 years (at least).
Those kinds of antics do get old and of the two articles that it got covered in, it was a shame to see one say the Lou song was mentioned as a 'drunken slur,' especially when it was supposed to be a retrospective to someone's career and all.
Maybe you will get this special kind of excitement on the next 'tour'!

Nothing wrong with having a drink but it would be better if he did it afterwards, or at least if he could take it easy till he's done his bit. I could understand if he was doing it to overcome nerves (done it myself for certain situations, and there is a fine line) but surely he's used to getting up on stage by now. Maybe he just prefers getting volleyed to being sober.

One would think he'd be more courteous, especially at a show like that, but you know what you might be getting when you sign him on.
It looked like a typical night out in Liverpool, not a retrospective for someone's career at the Phil! Drinking like it's last call at the pub, kicking the cup, watching Terry keep his eyes on him, such a laugh and you can't make this stuff up.
