Liam Gallagher singing backing vocals at the end of the song made no difference. It was a great song at the time coming off the back of Britpop and standing up well to material coming out from other bands like The Verve. It got a lot of airplay as well, including on Radio 1. You couldn't escape the song - it was played everywhere.
