Coldplay

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

As far as I know The Verve don't get any royalties from Bittersweet Symphony as they didn't get permission to use the Rolling Stones sample in the song before they released it. I'm sure Richard Ashcroft often chuckles to himself about it whenever he hears it on the radio.

i've heard him talk about this and the story changes slightly over the years. When i first heard it they didn't ask for permission and sampled it from his old dansette record player in his squat in hyde, or something. LAtest I've hrad is they did ask for permission but then used a much bigger sample and ended up losing everything. The irony i suppose is that it isn't even the rolling stones as such, and even if it was it was from the period where alan klein, their supposed saviour, rather coolly obtained the rights to all their stuff**. I htink the delays in releasing all that stuff as remasters was due to conflict with the klein empire. I think Rich (bit of a gobshite nob if you ask me) is philosphical in that the single lead to major interest in the album and the follow up singles. I hithkn he's still a fairly well off person - condsidering they only had a couple of albums went major.

** though you'd have to blame andrew oldham for that as original manager who 'owned' it in the first place. Bill Wyman's book details all this stuff. Apparently when they got the prince wossname bloke in as new accountant and business adviser he worked out klein owed them about 18 million but to avoid lengthy legal percocess they accepted about 2m, mopst of which obviously went to mick n keef.

that shows just how evil the coldplays are - take a song by someone else, change the words a bit, and the tune and the title and they try to pass it off as a completetly different song. bastards.

Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

So Pet Shop Boys never broke up and they just stopped playing them over here, basically? It's so weird yet so cool they are still(?) around--or around again the way things have been going in the music world.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

Still around but selling less and less records as the years go by...though the UK tours still pack out Arenas. You cant help but love PSB, they dont take themselves too seriously and are a cracking live (well, on tape) act.

I kind of lost track of them after that album with "Yesterday When I Was Mad" (love that song) but every time I read a review of a new album it always seemed really positive. A lot of them were decrying the fact that as their music got better their audience dwindled.

Still listen to that weird comp from a long time ago. The one where they're wearing bee keepers masks.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
