Otherwise, just go your separate ways - Ian can do his WAYGTDWYL stuff and Will Glide stuff and it is still win-win.

Not really. However paltry the income from what they're doing now, going it alone would bring in less dosh.

I meant a win-win for me. This is always about me or whomever is saying what they want.

Of course the best thing for them is the oldies circuit. Like when my folks would go see the old Motown acts in the late 70s and early 80s.

New Wave Chitlin' Circuit.

That said, I hope they don't ever do that! And judging by that frosty message from mgmt about such a career capper a while back, ain't gonna happen anytime soon. I hope not. The Furs have done that and it somehow cheapens the night. Plus you have to share the venue with annoying Alarm, Fixx and ABC fans  Better they go it alone, but perhaps better gauge venue size so they can make a few bucks, so Sarge doesn't have to stock shelves at Safeway. And since it's all about me, don't wait another three years to play L.A., guys! How 'bout Coachella 2010?

Another show I wouldn't attend!
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I will however purchase all new releases for no other reason than to make sure Will doesn't stock shelves till he snuffs it.

If Will got a good blog going with a paypal at the bottom I'd throw him a tenner once a year.

He gave it up 'cos life took over, and the spuds needed planted or picked or something like that.

though i think most of the piccies from the ocean rain dvd are his,so maybe one of the management had a word, what with their business acumen and all that and said, here will, why give em away, stick em on a special edition dvd and we could get 30 quid a pop, and he thought for a while and said, can that bloke who does the webs ite give me a hand, i've got some squashes to plant this weekend, and he said, no problem - and he's cheap, so dont worry about your profit margins. and then he said, what abut that bloke who sings, he said, no worries, he wont even know about it. Do you think when he's up on the allotment he says to the other blokes (and saucy young housewives - i hear they are the biggest growing group of allotment owners), here, i used to be in a pop group once. and they roll their eyes and give each other that 'here hje goes again' look.

The thought of Will thinking of Mac as "that bloke who sings" made me LOL.

However, that was a four-way partnership + Bill Drummond, not two guys and a bunch of hired guns. Could they still pull it off today? I'd give it a listen if they tried.

As to the kids, never discount what they might pick up on. Went to my first Buzzcocks show in years a few years ago and was stunned to see all the teens and tweens there. All it took was the Buzzers playing the Warped tour, I guess, to widen their fan base. Tho I don't advocate that for the Bunnymen ... there's no way I'd go stand in a hot parking lot somewhere to see them do a 30-minute set!

I think we're kidding ourselves if we think the Bunnymen of today will ever make another album like Crocodiles. I think it's also a little unfair to expect that at this stage in their careers. But just because they are in their 50's that's no excuse for the lyrics in Do You Know Who I Am or songs like Proxy and What If We Are appearing on a Bunnymen album.

I just want to see them try some new and creative things in their songs, something that they've consistently not done for the most part recently, but it's something they did over their first 4 albums in 5 years. It's just been bland and boring mid-tempo stuff mostly.

If they want to expand their audience The Fountain is pretty much the opposite of what they should be doing, IMO. The sales of it show that. I find it very hard to picture someone under the age of 30 walking into a record store or going online and buying that album. Just not going to happen.

I'm not suggesting a carbon copy of Crocodiles, complete with early 80s-style songs. I don't think anybody expects that, although many of those songs are as basic composition wise as you'd get from any band. Probably what makes it such a great album.

What I was suggesting was just taking the sound where the songs are stripped down, getting rid of stuff like keyboards, putting in more rythmn guitar, bass and adding live-sounding percussion. I mean, after all, they appear to be more of a live than a recordings band nowadays. Producing a collection of 11 uptempo rock songs that have more of a live sound to might be a lot easier to record. Either that or it's the Glide route. I can't really see what else they can do.
