Siberia 4th anniversary

Today is the 4th anniversary of the release of Siberia.

It seems like only yesterday that I was filled with disappointment and wondering who the new vocalist was.

You were disappointed? I thought some of it was a step in the right direction. Seems a long time ago now...

That's ok I don't either usually but you should because you never know when that stuff will come in handy to dazzle those around you.

one song is classic (All Because of You Days)
about five or six songs are half classics (In the Margins, Of a Life, Scissors in the Sand) okay make that three songs are half classics.
the rest are turds (Parthenon Drive being the absolute most boring song the Bunnymen ever wrote. Even worse than Fuel)

I think All Because of You Days is a bit of a turd. Apart from the guitar and the chorus, it sounds like Coldplay. Not as turdish like mind you as What If We Are? The Turd of all Turds.

In the Margins, Of a Life, Scissors in the Sand, Siberia and Sideways Eight were the songs that I liked on that album.

Same here, What If We Are is simply too embarassing to listen to.

Unlike the truly great "In The Margins" and "Of a life" the actual singing and music on "What if we are?" are not that hot, but the lyrics appeal to my middle aged angst and self-doubt.

I agree that there are several good songs on Siberia.

Like Flowers, once the newness of it wore off it just seems to me that it is mostly filler and there wasn't much attention to detail which doesn't really make it "brilliant" or anything close in my opinion.

As much as I hate "What if We Are" the end really gets me. Sounds like Mac really was going through some self doubt at the time and is really singing honestly.

Along with the end of All Because of You Days it shows simple lyrics can be as meaningful as something more obscure. Simple doesn't have to be simplistic.

From interviews when the album was released both Will and Ian, independently, said that those lyrics in particular were meant to be more ironic or sarcastic than sincere. (This is paraphrasing. They had a much better way of saying it. I can't remember the exact wording right now.)

I took the lyrics to be a dig at Lorraine.
