So "dark" could be taken as the sound of the album Heaven Up Here or even parts of Porcupine (eg. Higher Hell). There's always room for that in an eleven-track album.

Yes very similar - everybody as a dark album

Usually the second as they find themselves.

He's always admitted that he's a shy person. And after seeing all the performers at the All Points West Music Festival, he struck me as being the most uncomfortable while on stage. Perhaps the combination of age, having been out of the spotlight for years and his struggle to become relavant with a successful album has resulted in a crisis of confidence. Doing performances wearing an old style black hoodie and retreating to the comfort of Ocean Rain gigs is maybe a way for him to cope with that drop in self-esteem. Is there a psychologist in the house?

I dunno... I like Mac, every time I've had chance to meet him he's been great and a lot more intelligent & sensitive than people generally give him credit for. He's no mug.

But Les's apraisal of how the band would work in the 80s is pretty much what I'd still follow.

Well there was that time... Pete was great, I mean, Will would go along with everything unless it meant changing something that he'd written y'know, and I'd try and be very diplomatic, and what would happen is, like... Mac is like a kid, an ever evolving kid, so we sort of knew how far we could push Mac, and make the idea seem like it was his, and make him like it; and that way it'd be more productive, y'know, you could make headway. Whereas all of a sudden Pete would turn round and just say, "This is fucking shit!" y'know "Hold on; that is shite" and then, where we'd been wheeling Mac along on this idea, all of a sudden Mac would say "You're right! This is shit!" so it was all like a big game in a way, not exactly mind games, but Pete was a realist. He would all of a sudden just say "No, this has gone too far...it's crap" and we were always trying to retrieve it. In every song there might be a bit worth saving, but Pete was one for wanting to start again y'know, which was good, and I think Mac used to overrule him a bit, it was all about a power game, and for good or bad, Mac had his reasons and his ways, but he wanted, not the power of the band but to be seen as the lead singer in the best band in the world; not to be the boss, and there is a difference.

so no internal quality control any more , just the bloke who'll change anything unless he's written it. though if you think about it like that its hard to say who is who any more. eek.

so, how did he show this sensitivity? presumably by not kicking a door in near your head. did he give you flowers (eh eh, joke there) recite a poem or shake hands without using one of those really manly handshakes that junior managers like to use just to show you who really is the boss. I'm intrigued.

One time he hit me over the head with a whiskey bottle but then he said he was really sorry. Very decent of him, I think.

He gave me a good shoulder rub one time. Very much appreciated.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Christ...
I hope you had a word, lead singer or no lead singer...

No, he was just sound all 3 times. Talked books and records in an erudite manner, took the piss a bit, and didn't sit under that bloody glitterball. Still, I didn't hang around to witness what he got up to later as I had an appointment with the pub.

Hey bf, member that time he broke into your house and stole all your weed, but then a week later he sent you flowers?

Class act that Ian. It was about ten grand in weed but they were lovely flowers.

He definitely has not lost it. Some people just have that "it" factor, and he is certainly one of them.

I am happy to hear he was thoughtful with the flowers though
