Is Bring on the Dancing Horses Considered a B-Side, or what?

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

the song was recorded specifically for the John Hughes film Pretty in Pink,

The single was released as a 7-inch single, a 12-inch single and a shaped picture disc. On the 7-inch single and the picture disc the title track is three minutes and 59 seconds long and the b-side is "Over Your Shoulder". The title track was extended by one minute and 38 seconds for the 12-inch single, to five minutes and 37 seconds, and an extra track, "Bedbugs and Ballyhoo", was added to the b-side.

So I guess it being released as a single with a Grey album B-side and Grey album track led me to believe that it was itself a b-side. But I guess it aint.

You're welcome by the way.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Apparently not or you wouldn't be asking dumb questions about boring ass songs at VT.

By that logic, NO questions would be asked on VT because Wikipedia is there. I consider VT to be the place to go for this particular subject matter, although I familiarized myself with what Wikipedia had to say regards the movie soundtrack after it was suggested that it was the compilation that the song was created for.

Also, the song is good, and I love the video for it.

So is the following statement true?

"During the classic Bunnymen era (Crocs thru Grey) all published original Bunnymen compositions are either album tracks, or b-sides, EXCEPT for Bring on the Dancing Horses."
"He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail, but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits."

It's actually one of my favorite Bunnymen songs, love the bass riff and drums during the chorus. The extended mix might be even better.

I always thought it was simply a single the band released. What am I missing? It was for Songs To Learn and Sing? But it was still a single. Came with 2 B-sides and everything, one of which was pretty awesome.

It's too bad the band couldn't keep recording stuff at that time to release a new LP.

I might have to break down and listen to this song for once, instead of skipping over it every time it comes around on "shuffle."

No. Unless I am misunderstanding the stetment, Never Stop was a non-album track single too. It only appeared in various single forms and then STLAS just like Dancing Horses.

Manna Machine wrote:Correct...Mac liked "Skin Deep" by The Stranglers and wrote a song that had a similar feel.....they also recorded @ ICP Studios in Brussels with Laurie Latham in August 1985.
(Same producer and studio as Skin Deep)

Yep. The sound is almost identical. I haven't heard much of Latham's work beyond The Stranglers and The Bunnymen, but I assume he was a bit like Stock Aitken and Waterman were later to pop music or Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were to black soul music. ie. all the songs and production sound identical.
