Coldplay's new album

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

  I remember that video. It felt so true at the time. Perfect music to listen to while in the dental chair.
I think though that they're trying to change their image with this new album?

I've got news for you, The VU were completely "moulded" by a stylist name Andy Warhol. They were as made up as Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

So, a band has to be VU for you to like them? They are, of course, the archetypical favorite of music snobs, having the most important attribute of obscurity during their music career, thereby avoiding the contamination of being listened to by commoners.

Coldplay may well suck, but your criticism of them continues to be nothing but who buys them, and where, and how, and for what reason, and a place called "Tesco's." I hope, for your sake, that "Tesco's" never sells VU records, because then you will be in quite a pickle as to what your opinion should be.

Re: Lou Reed...... I Don't think ANYONE could tell him what to do, wear, sing. He HATED the movie "Factory Girl" He felt it was full of made up shit.

Do you have anger management problems?Or do you just like defending bands that sound like Sting? The only shiny pieces of leather Coldplay sing about are on their Bentleys.Honestly JT-whats your problem? The majority of Coldplay fans cant name three out of the four members names. Is that a good fanbase? And what exactly makes you an authority on the UK music scene?Calm down me old china.

Do you have anger management problems?

Why is it you can let loose with "conservative,sheep-like,supermarket consuming, franchise loving 'masses'", but if I call you on it, I'm the one with anger management problems? I'm not the one bashing Coldplay fans and calling them names, YOU are.

Or do you just like defending bands that sound like Sting?

I am not defending Coldplay. I don't know anything about them. If I were to judge their music, though, it would be based on.... their music.

Honestly JT-whats your problem?

I thought I had detailed my problem fairly thoroughly. Summary: I disagree entirely with your premise, which belies an untoward focus on contempt for others at the expense of judging the music on its own merits. For more detail, see above posts.

The majority of Coldplay fans cant name three out of the four members names. Is that a good fanbase?

There you go again bashing Coldplay fans as if that has anything to do with anything. Who cares about their fan base? Can you hear any of that on the CD?

And what exactly makes you an authority on the UK music scene?

Authority on UK music scene? Never claimed to be one, nor am I interested in ever being able to do so. I AM an authority on snobbish losers, though. You are one.

Calm down me old china.

You will not beguile me with your silly patois.

I think JT summed it up Jane - if it is because he hates the music - no.

Can one be a snobbish loser to diss Coldplay? They have a pretty snobby class background themselves -- posh "indie" music for posh people -- schooling undertaken in British private boarding schools followed by university and captaincy of the uni hockey team -- only surpassed by a certain Mr James Blunt (music also resembles Coldplay at times) who attended a toff public school and then a commission in one of the posh regiments in the British army (where there are Lords, Princes and so forth) doing ceremonial duties for the Queen of England.

Methinks hatred of Coldplay is not a sign of music snobbery, but signs of the old British class war. Power to the workers, comrade and all that. Honest guv. Coldplay and their clones, manufactured bands and the like represent everything that British music scene once never was. Even drugged-up Amy Winehouse went to a special performing arts school when she was a teenager. Where's the poor working class boys (or girls) that thought they'd chance it with their band after leaving school with no job, just a giro at the end of the week and then spent years touring in a knackered Ford transit eating out of motorway service stations on the few quid they made playing some dive the previous night? It's just not rock n' roll anymore.

They are too busy drinking at the pub. And don't have folks like Alan McGee to sort them out and help them get their act together. Oh, and rock is dead. Those folks you speak of are djs and rappers now. M.I.A. is doing quite well.

Well, I wasn't going to even read this thread because I'm not a Coldplay fan, but curiosity won out

I like my brother's take on Coldplay: "Wannabe U2. Chris Martin snuck into Bono's house and rifled through his trash can for discarded lyrics. "

It sounds like Tesco is doing what Wal-Mart and Starbucks are doing. Pushing CDs to the impulse-buying masses.
