Dave Smith wrote:No its based on the fact that apart from their Glasto headline slot, they havnt done anything to justify their wealth and status. The current UK music scene is made up of numerous counterfeit skinny legged indie bands all wanting a career (£) over musical nous. And Coldplay are the Godfathers.Plus his(Martins) constant namedropping of influences makes me want to kill the twat.Who namedrops Coldplay as an influence? Hence anyone with taste in the UK laps up real foreign talent such as CSS and MGMT and actively detests what the conservative,sheep-like,supermarket consuming, franchise loving 'masses' prefer to buy in the way of music.Coldplay are no different to Elton John,George Michael,Bryan Adams etc etc.Dinner party, pleasant background music when the advacado is mixed with Don Perignon.Boring, boring, boring shite. And Mac is even worse for encouraging the bastards.

Withahip, notice the supercilious dismissal of "conservative,sheep-like,supermarket consuming, franchise loving 'masses'." No doubt this person thinks he is better than these people he imagines, while also believing, paradoxically, that he is more open minded.
For this kind of person, it is all about who else likes the band, how much money the band has, how skinny their legs are, and other things like "namedropping".
The music itself actually takes a back seat to all of these more important considerations. When the music IS considered, it must, above all, not be "pleasant."
This attitude might be more understandable coming from someone who had himself done what it takes to make a go of it in the music business, or produced something of consequence in the field of his own particular calling. In general, however, we are lucky if such a person does not still live with his mother.

As it happens, mate,I had a go at being in a band for 10 years, and played gigs on major tours so you're not talking to some idiot.I had a go and didnt make it.Not quite good enough. That has nothing to do with Coldplay. They are shit.If you want them you can have them with pleasure pal.But leave my mom out of this will you,she was sufficated by Hattie Jacques a year after I was born.
