Any Mac fans here?

I know - ask the dude over at the other forum - seriously though - I am slowly switching over - my macbook - with the exception of this keyboard - has been amazing with the application I use.

I have a question or two. Anyone use 'em?

Not that any of this will help you, but - I'd love to take the plunge now that they're Intel and I can chicken out and go back to Windows. I think their hardware looks cool as shit.

Almost dove in head-first when the MacBook Air came out.
Chickened out, though.

Maybe I can help you out . . .I bought the macbook for music recording applications but was running XP on it. I was having headache after headache for the sake of one piece of software.

I ditched XP - took it off the computer - and once I started running Leopard, EVERYTHING has run smooth as silk. The computer finds midi settings automatically, airport automatically locates networks and rates their strength, the applications are getting easier to use and the ones I need from Windows (excel, power point, word) are there. And there are a lot of very simple things (clock/weather/date button, safari streamlined browser, very clear and accurate drag and drop) that making using this a breeze.

The music app. virtual synths, samples and so on are cross platform. I am adding the iMac for music and using my desktop for the internet.

So my question is - Would you shell out the extra cash for the Time Capsule over the Airport Extreme?

It depends - for me, I've got a media center that is the hub of my entertainment system - attached to that, I have two 750 gb hard drives which hold my music library, videos, movies and recorded TV.

If your storage needs aren't quite so intense, the time capsule sure would be convenient.

I am thinking it will kill two birds - I just need itto back up music and documents. If 750 is doing all that for you, 500 should suit me find.

And this networked hard drive . . .I am guessing this means I can trade files between the book ad the imac wireless like. And the same with the printers. Yeah, see you helped me out. It just makes sense.

Wireless drive sharing

Time Capsule also works great as a wireless hard drive whether you have a Mac or PC. It sets up in a snap, giving you a networked hard drive you can use for storing and sharing any kinds of files.

Print without wires

Print documents, photos, and more from any room in the home or office to a central printer connected to Time Capsule via USB.
(See system requirements.)

i have used mac computers for about 15 years now... but i am in the only field that still lives and dies by them - i work in graphic/web design.

at home i have a 1st generation mac mini souped up with an external hard drive for storage (though it is severely lacking in RAM), and at work i have a G5 tower with dual processor (made before they had intel inside). on both machines i am running Tiger (10.4) not Leopard.

i don't have any experience in the time capsule vs. airport extreme because i am still hardwired to my desk (not yet wireless) and i do my own backups (not nearly as frequent as i should). at work the office does them for me. honestly, i would say to ask peter on the other forum, he really knows his stuff. :)

Definitely tempting - I guess my only other barrier is the dual tv tuner / capture card in my media center.

I knew it worked as a print server, but if you connect external hard drives to the USB ports on a Time Capsule, will they read as shared network drives as well.

I'm all about expansion.

Imagine my dissapointment when I discovered this wasn't a thread praising the virtues of Ian McCulloch.

If I had the $ to drop I would get one but I don't think I'd ever switch since Windows pretty much gave me a new career 10 years ago and i have to keep up on that stuff.

I have a friend that uses a Mac and he loves Time Capsule.

I recommend Puppy Linux.

The reviews on the apple website is split on whether it works well or not.

Are we talking about Mac's voice again? Can we use Time Machine to get that back? I'd settle for 1999.
