I enjoyed the interview their performances were as brilliant as they could be considering the Estonian flu...I hadn't heard the transformed Bedbugs & Ballyhoo before and thought it was as good as the reworked Bring on The Dancing Horses...Who knows when my record package will make it across the Atlantic.

Brilliant? Really? What was obvious was that instead of having his voice turned up too high in the mix, it was turned way down. Interview wise started off okay then disintegrated into the kind of twaddle his magazine ones have of late.

Signature bassline of Bedbugs is way downplayed in the new version....Having said that I thought they were fine on the 3 songs--good to hear a newie. Just can't help feeling like Ian's straining on every note. I'm sure he's fine, but I feel any moment, he's going to pop off.

His speaking voice has changed much more than his singing. That's what shock me the most when I started getting back into the Bunnymen--hearing interviews and not believing it was Ian McCulloch.

This is from 1985 and he is completely comprehensible here (even if he's confessed to being bevied) and doesn't sound like he's eaten rocks for breakfast.

I agree...His speaking voice is shocking...and more than a lower register...He used to enunciate with perfect clarity and pitch...His conversation sounds slurred all the time anymore...But, I think it was a brilliant and successful interview...That's where he is today and I still admire him for getting out there and doing what he does...I was just marveling over his lyrics in Raindrop On The Sun...He can write moving and poignant lyrics still!

Just been interviewed on 5live, usual dig about cowboy hats and boots. Someone really should remind him of some of the footwear he wore, along with the white socks, far bigger crime than any cowboy boots! Only heard part of it, rambling on about limericks after his fashion advice.

*Estonian flu*, from playing at Narva Station festival.
It was an outdoor thingy at a derelict textile factory and I can testify it was really very cold.
