Butlins

Friday night, and oo, a dilemma - The Fall and Buns with overlapping set times. Thinking I'd edge it a bit not really having seen Smffy and Co before. Well I have seen them when they were on the bill when U2 played at Elland Road on Rattle & Hum Tour (I think....) and I saw em from a long distance but was more concerned with finding non-existent beer, as it was one of those gigs. Main thing I remember was at the end of the set the band just walked off stage and out into the audience, signed a few autographs and then tootled off somewhere where I assumed beer was allowed. Plenty of beer at Butlins so no problem on that front and they were in fine form. Band as tight as a gnats chuff and smiffy wandering around, growling and fiddling with the amps as is often told. Nipped over to catch the last half of the buns set - think they were doing the constantinople one, though I was a bit worse for wear by this point. And I would say, that even though I have yet to warm to that album, the couple they do sound ten times better live. The rest was business as usual but very good. The sarge seemed to be wandering around the fretboard in unusual ways in over the wall. Mac smiling and laughing - last time I saw em he kept threatening to leave. Don't recall the last time I heard people are strange either. And a second encore which happened after half the people had wandered off, so we mooched o nearer the front and worshipped out idols. Well I did, Mrs FC kept a respectable distance. Good night and yes drink was involved. Sat night jonny marr was quite good too. Pity had to come home early, was looking forward to spiritualised, but never mind. They'll be round sometime I expect. Obviously now toying with going to wakefield on Friday, hmmmm.

I wonder what Mac would have said in 1984 if you'd told him that one day he'd be playing at Butlins?

well I thought it was a bit weird now and again cos you're at a gig, and a fairly intimate affair, which is not that unusual these days, and then you look around and think, oo, i'm at butlins! I expect he would have denied the possibility, as would just about every band and follower. They're in wakefield tonight and maybe they'd have denied that too.

I would have gone and seen The Fall for her.
