Hello all

The track was originally released as the B side of the Killing Moon single. As you probably know it was recorded at the Albert Hall in 1983.

Best of all for Withahip, you can get it on CD, on Killing Moon, the Best of Echo and The Bunnymen which you can get from Amazon.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Killing-Moon-Best-Echo-Bunnymen/dp/tracks/B000WTNDQ2/ref=dp_tracks_all_2#disc_2

For what it is worth I reckon this is a pretty damn good compilation, better than Songs to Learn and Sing, and to be honest worth it for the CD version of Do It Clean live that I had been looking for forever as I loved listening to it back in the day as the B side of Killing Moon. Even better for me, it didn't cost a cent as my sister bought it for me one Christmas after seeing it in a supermarket - I was completely unaware of the CD and even less so of the fact it had the best/my favourite live version of Do It Clean lurking on Disc 2

Interestingly (or not) this track is not included on the 2008 Ocean Rain Bonus tracks release that had the '83 Albert Hall Show Live as Bonus Disc. Equally as interesting (or not, you decide) this version is on the Live At the Albert Hall Video (without the "You can't just shoot a man in the back" sample).

I agree Chunkyhair, great version that one. Wasn't there something about Do It Clean live being omitted from certain releases due to copyright issues as Mac used to pick and mix other songs into it when playing live?

Hi VB

There is the live version of Do It Clean from the second night (19th July) of the Albert Hall '83 gigs on the Crystal Days Compilation box set along with a cover of the Velvet's "Heroin" from the same gig, but I don't think it is nearly as good as the one this thread is about, recorded on the 18th July. I was over the moon when I got the Crystal Days boxed set as I thought I had at long last found one of the tracks of my youth on CD, only to be a little disappointed, until unearthing the Killing Moon compilation.

I remember reading somewhere something about the copyright and reasons why this track wasn't available, but for life of me can't remember what or where. At the back of my head I seem to think it was something to do with who owned the Publishing rights rather than the Copyright. There are quite few live recordings with Mac riffing others' songs out there (Crocodiles, Nothing Lasts Forever as well as on Do It Clean on the Crystal Days compilation). Which leads onto another topic - I have been listening to a bootleg recently of Glastonbury 1985 where Thorn of Crowns (a classic track live back in the day) goes into pretty much a full on cover of The End by the Doors - priceless stuff.

Anyhoo - whatever the reasons re Do It Clean being hard to find, the good news for Withahip is he can get the track on CD if he wants.

Mrs Chunkyhair has just told me I am a sad bastard  . Oh well.

Chunkyhair - a sad bastard!
