According to no less and authority than Jack this was the greatest Bunnymen show he's seen other than the original line-up. Will was spectacular and while Mac's hair looked like a behive doo with bangs his voice was in great form. We could do without the medleys though.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

never mind jack - though did he have his bunnymen jacket on? What did the missus and more importantly, your boy think. Sure to get the truth from those two.

Jack left the Bunnymen jacket but brought his air guitar and got his money's worth.

My son enjoyed the show and said his favorite song was Seven Seas. On the way home Jack and I played selections from Porcupine and Clay was his favorite. The missus thought they sounded good but the venue was so hot and crowded (secret show my ass) she couldn't enjoy it. It had to be 90 something degrees in there and stuffy. Tempers were getting short and we saw some people being escorted out.

That said the band was excellent and Jack and I are contemplating getting tickets for Friday's show.

so what's jack up to now he's not wasting his time correcting our grammar and making lists of the top four greatest bunnymen albums? Does his brother still make music? And does he ever wear his bunnygod jacket. I'm going to an 80s themed party in later this year,I migth want to borrow that.

I asked about the jacket and he said he still has it but it hasn't been washed in 30 years or so. I'm not sure if his brother is still making music but we were taking turns pulling up youtube videos on tbe tv and one of his selections was a song and video by his brother. Other than that, Jack's been working, raising his kids and drinking Scotch.

We need to get you that jacket for your party.

Bunnymen at the Orpheum in L.A. on Friday:

Lovingly restored old vaudeville house ... AC apparently on the fritz, or else it couldn't keep up with masses of sweaty bodies in a sold-out venue. Because I procrastinated, I was in the peanut gallery ... three rows from the top in the balcony. One row up and a few seats over, some yahoo kept yelling "Liverpool." And the guys behind me talked through the entire show. Will never understand. You can do that outside. For free. At least the sound and band were excellent.

Thought the show was pretty good. Will's guitar playing was stand-out, as usual, and Mac was hoarse, as usual. And quite chatty. No idea what he was saying, tho. Did the kick the towel into the audience routine. Drummer did a bang-up job too. Not the best Bunnymen show I've ever seen, but certainly not the worse (they could only go up -- one hopes -- from that memorable (for all the wrong reasons) Anaheim gig a few years ago, where they cut the show way short because Mac's "back hurt," etc.) Anyhoo ... set list a mix of old and new material, with a heavy lean on late Bunnymen 1.0 u.s. hits. People roared for the oldies and clapped enthusiastically for the new songs ... I hadn't heard anything off the new album before ... was pleasantly surprised. Might even buy a copy. Two encores, ending with a beautiful "Ocean Rain."

Black Francis ... did you and Jack make the show? Sounds like you got the better deal at the Observatory, based on comments I heard after the Orpheum show.

We almost bought tickets but in the end we decided to hit up a bar and take easy after our Nazi compound hike. Another reason for going to Santa Ana was I thought Mac's voice might be in better shape. It was very good in Santa Ana especially on The Cutter and the new songs sounded great live especially Meteorites which they opened with. My only complaint is we didn't get Lovers On the Run.

The opening act (solo dude with a guitar) wasn't my cup of tea. Did you get the same thing?

Folkie guy opener? I skipped it. Got to my seat at the Orpheum at 9.20, and the Bunnymen came on at 9.30. Perfect timing! The lady sitting next to me said she really enjoyed the opener, tho.

I was hoping that because they had a day off between Santa Ana and L.A., Mac's voice would have time to recover. Guess not. There was even one point where he let the audience sing for him. Can't remember which song, however.

Just finished watching the box set of Deadwood, and this comment Dave, reminds me of one scene where Al Swerengen is reminding his sidekick Dan to make sure the mercenaries he's about to engage are sober (or something like that) and Dan, who has the hump says 'yeah, and I'll also remember to remove my pants when I take a shit too". Good advice though.

Why don't they teach you this stuff at school? That's where I've been going wrong all these years. Cheers for the advice FC.
