Robin Guthrie - minor bunnymen mention

Postby fat cherry » Fri Feb 29, 2008 7:15 am

Anyone ever read Robin Guthrie's blog? Personally I dont know why anybody does this - writes their miserable thoughts on the internet (a personal diary that you have burnt by your closest freind when you snuff it wuold make the world alot happier.) - is it supposed to be funny or therapy? Dunno, I find leaning on the bar at my local and staring at the barmaids tits more therapeutic, but I am 'working at home' today, and obviously we all know what that means,

I occasionally have a look at this -
http://www.cocteautwins.org/~robin/blog.html

he makes Will sound like he's on the happy tablets (for anyone who remembers the Jonny Others interview), but as part of his tour of italy he even mentions the buns (sorry dave), and not in a good way either.

Chez.

oh, its near the end of day 4.

Robin Guthrie - legend.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

No,he is and will always remain, one of my fave guitarists. He's not too shabby at arranging and producing either.

I wrote a Cocteau Twins song title generator in MATLAB.

I noticed, when I accidentally caught a bit of the nme awards whilst channel surfing that Nicky Wire name checked the buns whilst receiveing the 'godlike genius' award from that most reputable of magazines. Sorry, bit random that bit of info....

Hiya Hip, the blog is one long moan about everything (mostly) going wrong on tour:

"And then someone brings their face to within a couple of inches from mine and says “Hi, just wanted to say… You’re a piece of history” and I think to myself “you’re a closed minded fucking asshole who has just been dancing to echo and the fucking bunnymen. You are so stuck in the past, fuckwit” but of course I politely say “Thank you”."

... and obviously one could argue quite reasonably that dancing to echo and the effing bunnymen and thinking Robin is a piece of history are not necessarily incompatible, but we weren't there were we?

So nothing to write home about really (and you may well ask, why did I bother, well it was friday afternoon...). It'd be nice to say there was an ironic twist but really if there is any humour its that robin is relentlessly pissed off about everything - lives in france & moans about the french. ALways losing luggage (always tours places where luggage retention isn't a priority) etc. SOme interesting snippets now and again.

Having said that I just picked the 'night/morning CDs, jolly good stuff, though you can imagine its an aquired taste. Also picked up a Budd/Eno CD. Hard to tell the diff really, and one might possibly ask whether mr B is merely a charlatan who plays about three notes an hour and then gets some name to fill in the gaps and put their name on the album cover. Not unpleasant by any means. I also noticed that on the eno album theres a track called 'Dunwich Beach, Autumn 1960'. So I guess the sarges Ainsdale Beach february (or whatever) is his little tribute/joke on that. I wonder.

I love Harold Budd, but I think you make some really good points.

I say I love the guys music but I only listen to the cds he made with Eno, Guthrie and Foxx.

Budd will be the first to admit he is a hack.

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_ar ... dbudd.html

"I'm not a pro. I couldn't play covers. I'm actually hopeless at music, except for this narrow niche."

Yet, he is the person that inspired me to start taking piano lessons late in life and the half dozen of his cds I love (check out the one he made with the Cocteau Twins The Moon and the Melody) I never tire of. "Late October" The Pearl is one of my favorite songs of any genre.
