I bought a bass guitar!

Tired of discussing the Bunnymen and all the bands that have been influenced by them? This is the place for you.

I bought a bass guitar!

I've been a guitar player for a long time. Picked up some keyboard lately. I've always wanted to learn to play bass. So I found a cheap-o beginner bass on Craigslist for $75. Seemed OK for the price. Here tis:

Does anyone know what this bass is a copy of? It may be some Fender copy but I was looking for an exact model.

EDIT: Doh, It's a Fender Precision copy!

I already had an old Kustom PA that was given to me that can be used as a bass rig do I'm covered there.

I had fun last night just thinking of songs with prominent bass lines like Set the Controls... and Money by Pink Floyd and Zeppelin and Sabbath stuff. I looked up some Bunnymen tabs on this here site too. Wow, some are really wrong. Sorry, I didn't write them and I don't really check them for accuracy either! Crocodiles is fun tho and I already knew Do It Clean. That was always a bit of a staple in any band I was in.

I'm actually going to show my wife how to play a little bass so she has something to do in our little fun family band. She played violin when she was little but thats it. I figured as a guitar player who has played in bands I can wing it but if any bass players want to give me tips, that would be most welcome.

I decided to encourage music with my kids because my parents only tolerated my playing when I was young and didn't really encourage it as a creative outlet. So, my older daughter has some drums we gave her for Christmas which she has picked up nicely and the littlest one knows a few keyboard things I showed her. We know two songs so far. One blues original in E from lyrics the older kid and her Mom wrote and "I'm A Believer" cause it's easy and they can identify with it because it was on the Shrek soundtrack.

i feel I am part of the family now ...

I am diing the same with my little fella .. he loves music ---we are both learning the guitar together

He even writes his own little ditties

If you're happy, you're happy, then give me a smile,
If you're dancing , you're dancing, then dance or your toes,
If you're sniffing , your sniffing, you sniff with your nose,
If you're biting , you're biting - like a crocodile ..

brian that's awesome!!! i got myself a bass guitar back in december and am learning to play. maybe we can trade bunnymen bass tabs. i played the mp3 of "all that jazz" for my bass teacher last week and he was freaking out cuz the bass isn't playing the same notes as the guitar chords (as is typical in most songs). i told him i didn't care about that, i just wanted to learn it. i also learned do it clean, but i don't know if it's exactly right - the tabs you find online are not always correct.

i have a Gretsch Electromatic "junior" bass - it's a 3/4 scale, so size-wise it's more like playing a les paul guitar than a bass... i love it.

Dont tell me Red, let me guess...

...you taught Les to play and you have his guitar under your bed?
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

I guess it's cocktail hour in the UK.

Scouser, don't you have some puppies you need to drown or something?
