Antwerp gig

Postby voz » Wed May 07, 2014 6:28 pm

Nothing but highlights this evening. Ian in great form, the band playing very solid and Will being as superb as ever. The new songs sounded al OK. At one time Mac mentioned the game Crystal Palace - Liverpool and as we began singing 'We are Liverpool/shalalalala' Ian started YNWA for one verse.

Setlist:

Meteorites
Nocturnal me
Rescue
Holy Moses
My Kingdom
Bedbugs and Ballyhoo
Seven Seas
Constantinople
Silver
Never Stop
New Horizons
All that Jazz
Lovers on the run
Bring on the dancing horses
The killing moon
The cutter
***********
Nothing lasts forever
Lips like Sugar
***********
Ocean rain

Amazing set, i must have seen the bunnies at every belgian date since they reformed and this was clearly the best one for about a decade.
Mac has got back his great voice, the singing is wonderful (Ocean Rain, waow !), and, believe it or not: he LAUGHED and CHATTED with Will at one moment (about the guy who constantly brings him glasses of red wine), so i have a picture if you think i'm lying.

The new songs are ok, better sounding than on the record (even if not released yet I know!), especially Holy Moses (yes I'm the only one who like it here, I know) and Constantinople.
Meteorites is the best of the lot, played live, while I still can't start to like the studio version. LOTRun is fine too.
They play some parts of Never Stop differently, it's cool to hear it with a fresh treatment. The cutter obviously was a highlight, together with All that Jazz, Lips and the godlike 'Moon & 'Rain.

BTW here's the traditional towel shootout, i filmed with my smartphone for you:

Fantastic show imo and better than Paris even though that was great! Just wish I was going to Utrecht!!
I think the new songs really work live. Don't think some are giving them a fair chance, Meteorites and Constantinople being the standout two for me. The Killing Moon and Ocean Rain were faultless, Mac was on top form and band really tight, Good venue too!

Sounds good, really looking forward to catching them in Edinburgh & Liverpool....

But will be strange seeing them playing nothing from "Heaven Up Here" my fave album ever !!!

Agree with that Jimbo...one of the lesser played tracks would fit very nicely! Think you'll enjoy the shows all the same, good to have a real shake up of the setlist!! Wish could go to Edinburgh, have been to the venue before and really liked it but going to London!

I had never seen Ian & Will so close on stage, they even had a few words and a laugh. RARE !

Nice volley, could be good enough for Palace playing like that.

Mac (smiling): "You know what Will, that Voodoo Billy off Villiers Terrace will get a shock when the mighty reds win the league this Sunday".
Will (laughing): "Is right, Mac".

Great to hear people loving this show and the Paris show.

Doesn't sound as good live as the recorded version. Good song that, but always preferred the rockier stuff post-97. Found a recording of the Antwerp gig in its entirety.
