no no no no jacky baby, we dont go just putting ys on the end of things, that would just be silly wouldn't it? And if it annoys you, well I cant argue with that logic either. Obviously, you americans do what you want (cue 'you usually do' joke), it quite sweet really, but over in these parts its a much more normal thing that when you want to be best mates with a band, or to infer that you are at least their half-sibling you take the second part of the name. So 'echo' is just wrong. As would calling 'eddie and the hot rods', er, eddie (another band with leader that didn't really exist as a real person). If you want to let people know you share your most intimate and private bodily functions with them then you might even change this first abreviation into something a bit more abbreviated - hence buns/bunnies. See? I dont need to say well mac does it so therefore its correct (which he does and it is), so I wont.
You wouldn't call the rolling stones 'rolling' would you? No. Or the stone roses, 'the stones' (that would be just confusing). And in his book 'heaven knows I'm miserable now' andrew collins has a very very amusing story about his neighbour who refers to Simple minds as 'the old Simple'. Do you need any more - Floyd?, pistols, zeppelin,- oh well, you get the picture. In fact, when thinking of a band name its quite sensible to pick one that can be shortened so your uberfans can do so and talk quietly (but just loud enough to be heard over the din in starbucks) about going to see you without anyobe else needng to know what they are on about. And yes I know it doesn't work with roxy music.
