NEW BUNNYMEN ALBUM

Which option would you choose?

1. The Bunnymen pack in completely after this tour.
2. Sub-standard albums every few years, support slots to the likes of James and appearances at silly festivals.
3. Occasional 'nostalgia' shows consisting almost entirely of old material. No new material recorded.

I'd go for number 3.

Me too, 5times, but they can only do that so many times as well. They need cash and the money comes from having a valid reason to tour. There's only the summer season for festivals and that is going downhill too.

I'd prefer them to just knock it on the head completely, the reason I don't attend their gigs any more is because I got bored of hearing the same songs being performed in the same way in more or less the same order every time.

I doubt they'll pack it in though, they need the Bunnymen name in order to make a living.

As I say, and it's only my taste, the Glide project and so on is not really as accessible as the other music and it's rare that I'm in the right mood to give it a whirl.

Sums up the Bunnymen perfectly, it was a marriage of the accessible and the inaccessible and the way that both elements blended, bit like Cale and Reed and that's why it worked, but also with a huge influence of Les and Pete as well. It's not about right and wrong, it's just how it is these days.

Am with you on that, VB. It's just too different now. I, probably like a few others, was appalled at the prices on the Pledge site. Think it was around $40 US for a CD and nearly $80 for the vinyl. Not saying anything about anyone who pledged, just saying for me that is way beyond the norm. Then you see the post later about the CD being £10 on amazon. I like supporting my favorite bands but I'm tired of being fleeced.

If Ian wants to go the singer-songwriter route with Will along for the ride, I'm ok with that. Obviously there is no interest in a Glide/Mac project or it would have happened by now. Pete is dead and Les aint coming back. I thought Evergreen and WAYGTDWYL sounded good for what they were. The Fountain sounded cheap and one dimensional. Siberia and Flowers sounded half finished and Mac's vocals were crap.
I just want whatever is released to sound good for what it is even if it is another Mac solo album disguised with the Bunnymen name stamped on it.

I will say I am not too impressed with this Pledge nonsense but I have a feeling that this sort of thing is the only way to make money selling music these days.

I get that Mac was the main face and mouthpiece of the band but what I object to is Mac now seemingly airbrushing the others out of the equation and basically implying he came up with everything himself.

i know. that's sad. considering what a great band they are they don't seem to have a penny and then have to whore themselves on pledge (how much for mac's old underpants?')

i'd go for option 2. i enjoy the new albums, if only for a handful of songs. live- if they come to my doorstep yes but otherwise no thank you

They can still give us a very good live show. It's just the new stuff that disappoints.

I'd prefer they break up. If Mac had real integrity and respect for the Bunnymen he would release solo albums with Will guesting. Would the pay be any different for Will at this point? It's almost as if Mac is re-writing past Bunnymen history to justify making solo albums disguised as Bunnymen albums.

If Les was still in the band, and he and Will were actually contributing, it would be different obviously, but that's not happening, nor will it probably happen ever again. I saw them on the Evergreen tour, best show I've ever been to, so glad that I had the chance, but I really have no desire to see them again all things considered. Maybe they can get back together every 5 years and tour, although financially probably doesn't make sense to the band.

When they're on form live, as they have been the last few times I've seen them, they are still fantastic.

They should be good live. They've been playing nearly the exact same set list for at least the past 6 years, minus the Croc/HUH tour which still had the rest on it anyway. Not being rude, just saying.
