info today.Do I take it that like the delay in info from EATB.com,the interest in touring Australia will also not be a high priority and also be some time off eventuating if at all.



To confirm recent press speculation, legendary post-punks Echo & The Bunnymen are indeed ready to release and tour the new studio album they’ve been working on - METEORITES will be out on April 28th, followed by dates in the UK and European cities throughout May. The scoop they’ve missed is that the band want to make a rare sortie into the brave new world of direct-to-the-fans online action. Technological sophistication of this altitude being something a bit different for McCulloch, Sergeant and co, just for METEORITES they’ll be offering you the chance to land some SPECIAL limited edition, collectable product and to get involved with the project through their website www.bunnymen.com. Their eleventh album proper, it ranks alongside seminal records like ‘Crocodiles,’ ‘Heaven Up Here,’ and ‘Ocean Rain’ and is in some sense a ‘come back’ album in the mould of 1997’s classic ‘Evergreen.’ It’s been five years since their last record and the interim has seen the band involved in numerous side-projects that have leant a new perspective on working together for METEORITES. With Killing Joke’s Youth called in for production duties, the record revives their passion for the Velvet Underground, the bluest depths of 60s and 70s soul and soaring rock scripture from the only hands capable of writing the best song ever, ‘Killing Moon.’

To hail the release of this new addition to the Bunnymen cannon, the band will hit the road again in May. They’ll be playing from the new LP, which should be well and truly inscribed in your frontal lobe by then, as well as some of their extensive back catalogue. Echo & The Bunnymen today revealed that the band’s upcoming 12th studio album — produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth — is nearing completion and will be formally announced soon, and that frontman Ian McCulloch “feels it’s the band’s best work for a very long time.”

As leaked previously, Echo & the Bunnymen are prepping a new album, and now we’ve got a title, tracklisting, artwork and even the first round of tourdates. Meteorites will be released April 28th in the UK and June 3 in the US on 429 Records. Produced by Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve), the album contains ten new songs written by Ian McCulloch and features McCulloch and Will Sergeant along with Gordy Goudie (guitar) and Stephen Brannan (bass). In conjunction with the album’s release, the band will embark on a tour of Europe and the UK beginning in May (see confirmed dates below).

The album is described as “an intimate song cycle,” with McCulloch commenting, “’Meteorites’, the new Bunnymen album…at long last we’ve made the worthy successor to ‘Crocodiles,’ ‘Heaven Up Here,’ ‘Porcupine’ and ‘Ocean Rain.’ ‘Meteorites’ is what Echo and the Bunnymen mean and are meant to be—up there in heaven–untouchable, celestial, beautiful and real. It has changed my life.”

The cover photo for the new album is a thin section of the Zagami meteorite. Zagami is a piece of the planet Mars that fell as a... meteorite in Nigeria in 1962. It wasn't recognized as being from Mars until the late 1970s, after the Viking landers. One way geologists analyze rocks is to polish a slice thin enough so that it will transmit light. The thin section can then be studied with a microscope. The colors appear because of the ways that minerals with differing composition and crystal structure transmit polarized light. The sample in the photo is about 2 cm across.

.... just happens to look like billy fury's head with a load of sweet wrappers inside. Also, according to previous reports its not the 12th album its the '11th studio album proper'. Song cycle? yikes.
