Simple Minds

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Anyone seen Simple Minds lately? I will be going to see them in January, haven't seen them live so don't know what to expect.

I saw them in Liverpool last April and they were great. You'll enjoy it. Where are you watching them?

For me, one of the great tragedies of music is the way Simple Minds changed after New Gold Dream. Before that they were brilliant. I remember always being at my mate's house listening to sons and fascination and drinking cans of Harp lager. Great days.

It's a pity they changed their style but they are still well worth seeing live.

I agree, it's a shame they changed. I can't stand Belfast Child for example, but I hope there will be plenty from New Gold Dream, I love it. I will be seing them in Stockholm. Looking forward to it.

Yes, I agree about Belfast Child. I actually liked Once upon a Time when it came out, but it sounds awful now. Anyway, when I watched them they played quite a bit of old stuff; in fact, even the stuff from 1985 onwards sounded good live.
Have a good time.

bought sister feelings call / sons & fascination back inthe 80s, thought it was really good but then didn't really bother with anything else. Someone (prob mrs FC, 80s lineup) bought me sparkle in the rain and didn't like it much so that was that. just revisit the one i liked now and again. So the other day feeling a bit bored and having money to throw about I bought the first three albums. never really apreciated how different these are and what a massive journey (as they say on the x-factor) they took in getting their signature sound. I dont think bands do that these days, or even allowed to, even the way jim kerrs voice develops. interesting. yes yes yes I'm a bit bored today so thought i'd share that with you. I remember seeing Simple Minds on TOTP in the early '80's and wondering why Jim Kerr had a "mental patient haircut" as I thought of it at the time.
Very un-pc of me I know but in my defence it was the early '80's.

Comparing sons and fascination to once upon a time is like comparing heaven up here with the fountain. What happened?

Simple Minds

Postby redgumball » Sun Feb 16, 2014 1:27 am

Saw them in 1991 Real Life Tour in San Francisco at the Warfield. I guess I had missed the boat by that point. All of the good stuff was behind them and years of "commerical decline" where a head of them. Lots of energy at the show. Kerr could still karate kick his leg up pretty high. Voice was still there. Charlie could grind it out. Another up and coming band in 91 - Material Issue opened up for them.

Highlights for me where - Book Of Brilliant Things, Big Sleep, Someone, Somewhere...
