I know that is Mac at his bellowy finest! I think he might have actually been sobbing on A Promise. Great stuff!

If I had to pick my least favourite from HUH it would be 'a promise'. Saying that, it's still a classic, isn't it? Those first four albums ooze class. They are not monotonous, either, each has it's own particular vibe.

While the bunnymen still exist, we live in hope for Ocean Rain's true successor. That's why we get upset with sub-standard stuff like The Fountain. Other groups and singers put out excellent material years after their debuts. Recent albums by the likes of Bowie, Depeche Mode, Black Sabbath and Neil Young are proof of this. Why can't the bunnymen do the same? Has the chemistry just gone, or can nobody be bothered any more?

I think the problems started when Mac decided he wanted to be a crooner and Will's already said he can't be arsed any more as the only input he has is to play guitar over songs that Mac's already written.

HUH is totally overrated. Porcupine is the one we should all the be studying and debating.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

True.

Though on the topic of The Fountain - I was recently thinking the lyrics to The Idolness of Gods are rather good. If he writes anything as good on the new album, fair nuff.

These days I find Mac's lyrics either overly simplistic or just a bit cringy and when he couples them with a shite tune like Poxy for example ...

yes-

compare:

I cried the fountain dry
I climbed the mountains high
Hallelujahhallelujah
I got to you

In starlit nights I saw you
So cruelly you kissed me
Your lips a magic world
Your sky all hung with jewels
The killing moon
Will come too soon

Both completely nuts!

Although Mac has moved from strange metaphysical imagery to poorly constructed everyman prose.
