R.I.P. LOU REED

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Lou Reed

Goodbye dear friend
Goodbye gentle heart
The shy boy in shades
Who tried to act hard
Who was brash and rude
In public
But in private wrote
‘I’ll be your mirror’
Who loved his friends
And distained his enemies,
If even that
Who took popular music
And set it past the future
There still is no one who can match
The sounds that you made
Who transcended the limitations
Of popular music and wrote
Serious art
One of the holy trinity
(Dylan and Cohen the others)
Who made popular music literate
And stood up for those who could read
‘There’s nothing worse than active ignorance’
Goethe wrote that
‘You are the shadow setting in the sun’
I wrote that
As I bid the fare-thee-well
My heart breaks again
The mean-spirited, lost
And fragile, beautiful child
Who turned the world on its head

Who is that knocking at the door Mac?

Postby Crocodiles » Mon Oct 28, 2013 7:34 am

A old alcoholic, drug taking, washed up musician who had a few hits decades ago, had released shit solo albums and lived of the back of one hit being played over and over again is dead.

Sorry to say it Mac sounds like you are next.

I suppose if we are defining someone's legacy by their number of hits and their personal life then 90% of what I like (and most others here I would expect) can be cast aside. Lou's career has been spotty and even terrible at times but his impact and influence from the brilliant stuff can't be denied.

"I never liked The Beatles, I never really liked any British group, I don't think the British should play rock and roll... I never took British rock and roll seriously and I still don't." (Lou Reed speaking in 1983)

It wouldn't work if Mac was a slaphead would it.

You overlooked the first four V.U. albums.
And Sally Can't Dance is a good album.
Transformer has a number of good songs on it.
