I'm actually a firm believer that there is no new album on the way... Can anyone confirm they did go in the studio?

from the Yorkshire evening post....

The dynamic of Echo and the Bunnymen has changed drastically over the years, and the band is a source of frustration for Sergeant.

“There’s quite a lot of stress in the Bunnymen, so it’s nice to be able to call the shots,” he says.

“In the early days, we’d just go into a room and jam, and just see what came out. Nowadays Ian [McCulloch] just presents me with the songs and says ‘here you are, play some guitar on that’ – it’s c**p really.

“I don’t get any creative satisfaction from the Bunnymen stuff any more,” he adds. “I was driven to forming Poltergeist because the Bunnymen had gone so weird. It just feels like I’m a session musician nowadays – without Poltergeist, I’d probably top myself to be honest."

Glad that Will's enjoying the Poltergeist and solo work. But a real shame to read that it's all gone a bit weird at Bunny HQ. Depends of course if that's a recent interview or an old interview cut and pasted.

Personally think that the more paranoid Mac gets the more up himself he gets as well, and judging from recent news and performances he seems to have mellowed, but I reckon the last album was a real low point for Will, perhaps worse than WAYGTDWYL?

With WAYGTDWYL the story goes that Mac was listening to a new manager and Will was so fed up he said "it's me or the manager". The next day the manager was gone.

Flowers sounded like a bunch of demos that needed more polish and they were likely surrounded by "yes men" at the time. Sometimes having label or third party input is a good thing. It has a few good songs but that's about it.

the interview read mac's a ****. it's not even subtle “He was treated really badly by various members of the band,” says Sergeant. “He’d just had enough. I never fell out with him, so we always stayed mates"

so, if he didn't fall out with will, or himself who is left of the three members? hmmm

DS is right but I reckon Rentaghost ain't making that much when tix are going for £3.50-6.50/ea. So embarrassing. Insert Pledge.

I heard the world's smallest violin playing over here when reading the interview. It's a real good thing Will doesn't live in the real world or he definitely would have topped himself by now. Pity party of one.

Dave, I think the bedroom has been replaced by the 'pod.' I also agree, why doesn't he write some songs? Obviously he's been writing loads of others. You never hear interviews where he says he came up with an album's worth but they passed on them or anything. It's just 'he gives me this and says play on it.' No balls is right.

Oooh, stress, crapness, no creative satisfaction - the end is surely nigh, he's just kicked Mac in the bollocks and told him to fuck off. Possibly.

Who would come out and say a band doesn't give any satisfaction before a nice Xmas show and a world tour/new album???? They will continue on going through the motions for cash. He does have the option of saying 'no' to being a 'session musician.'

Anyone know how much Will's pity party tickets are going for? His 'agent' should really jump on that opportunity. They might be able to get £4.50 a head....
