It was a beauty, last one for a while in North America. I wonder what the ancients thought when that happened? It must have been terrifying. Time to make a blood sacrifice to appease the gods?
I let my 8 yo daughter sty up late to watch the moon turn red. She really seems to enjoy that stuff. Before it happened I showed her on my astronomy program what is actually happening.
We watched Jupiter and it's four prominent moons through the telescope last year and Grandpa might send us to Space Camp for a weekend! I have a pic of her at my desk when we went to the John Glenn Center near Cleveland Ohio. They have a mural of all the Ohiop astronauts. There are like 20 of them including Neil Armstrong, John Glenn and Jim Lovell. I took her pic so that it looks like she is in the mural too. I love being science geeks with my daughter!

I can't believe you have bought into all that "eclipse" and "Jupiter" BS. Not to mention "astronauts."

Mr Brian - you have an astronomy program, yes? Did you write it yourself? If not what is it? Sounds like just the thing I need for my 7 yo son who can't stop asking me about stars/moons/planets etc.
He won't go to sleep at night at the moment cos he watched Dr Who and thinks that the sun is going to explode and kill us all. Telling him that it will happen in 5 billion years time is not a good enough excuse apparently.
Fraid no eclipse here - a) in bed and b) cloudy (as usual).. glad to know it was good for you lot tho..

My guess is they made that shit up to scare the kids into behaving.

I told the kids Armegeddon was here and their deaths would be less painful if they went to bed early and let daddy drink his beer in peace.

I was using Starry Night. It's a pay program that does a million things I'll never use. I would recommend you use Google Earth. There is a new feature that will show you what's above once you enter your location. http://earth.google.com/sky/skyedu.html
