Physically sick today. Found out this is Pete Byrne's guitar, Will only borrowed it.
Unfortunately, I have had to open a paypal claim to try to get my money back. The certificate of authenticity would have been that he only 'played the guitar' ?? Very misleading.

This is pretty bad. You have a longtime Bunnymen fan who purchased at great expense a guitar they thought belonged to Will's collection and was something personal and special to him at one point. In the end it turns out to be a guitar he borrowed and gave back. I understand that it was used on the Crocodiles/Heaven Up Here tour but it remains a guitar that was technically never his.

The fb post referred to it as win yourself “Will Sergeant’s guitar”…not win yourself Pete Byrne’s guitar which Will borrowed for a little while…

Professional tennis players, golfers and celebrities have used my golf and tennis equipment but I would never put it out there as if it were their personal items.

I just feel really badly for in bluer skies knowing what a fan she is, especially in regards to Will Sergeant and his music and art.

BF, I like what you said about it not being in his personal collection, not even one that was in the corner collecting dust.
As Dave wrote, it's obviously not worth much in general but the sentimental value was what I was driven to in buying it.
No, I don't want Pete's guitar regardless if Will, Mac, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and so on played it.

See what ebay has to say about fraud and misrepresentation of an item. They may be able to void the auction and get your money back. This isn't right. Shame on Will.

You've paid and he's refused a refund? When did the 'Win yourself Will Sergeant's black fender guitar' turn into 'Win Pete Byrne's black fender guitar'? Just after you paid? That's beyond.

I know this is a pretty serious thread but I have to say the above line did make me smile.

Glad you enjoyed that Billy. There was pretty much no way to write it without sounding like a pretentious, name dropping douche so I didn't spend a lot of time dwelling on it.

Doesn't that show the difference in people? These are some pretty hefty true colors.

I would think that being behind the scenes and knowing that this is Pete's, one (Will) might not read the auction the way it looks to us normally. What sent me over the edge was when I got the mail today saying it wasn't Will's and VB mentioned the thing on the Poltergeist page actually saying "Win this person's....."

I think it's the final sign showing how much they will really shaft people for a few bucks (a lot) and use someone's name to propel their own interests. Still sickened and saddened by the whole thing.

Failing to mention, I got a mail from Pete yesterday saying that he wouldn't ship the guitar to the States because he didn't want the 'hassle' of doing the paperwork. That is supposedly why it wasn't listed for everyone to bid.

In hindsight, I almost wonder why it really wasn't listed internationally. Think of the intl Poltergeist stuff going out now.... This is not adding up.

Dave, I remember reading your original post here about the cost and I actually have a Mexican made tele thinline from around 2003/4. It is a reissue and went for about $650. I agreed with you right then on your post about the value but thought more about the personal worth, per say, and that it would be cool to have it even if it wasn't one of the main ones that you mentioned. I saw that one you spoke of in the museum as well.

When I saw your comments on FB, I still thought well, I would still like to have it and the heading did say "Win Will Sergeant's guitar." I never in a million years would have thought it would come to this. If I misrepresented something in that same way and someone showed me proof that it wasn't true, I would have been embarrassed and have sent the money back straightaway. Pete is actually fighting to keep the cash I sent.

That Pete has always come across as a bit of a shady tosspot to me, this confirms it.

I'm sure he reads this forum too, if so....give a refund.
