Andy Griffith joins Aunt Bea

I can't say I was a fan of "The Andy Griffith Show", but I liked the theme song whistle. I loved him on "Matlock". Mostly, he reminded me of my grandfather.

True story:

There was some sort of gathering at my mom's house, years ago. My aunt Gertie and Uncle John were there, along with my wife's Grandmother. There were some other old-timers there as well.

At one point, somebody says, "Matlock is on soon", and I swear, that place cleared out in a few seconds flat.
"He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail, but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits."

The Andy Griffith Show was great not only because it was funny but it also had great values without ever being preachy or overbearing. Long Live the Griff.

That's true, and sadly, a show like that would never make it on tv today. And by that I don't mean it would be cancelled after a couple episodes; I mean it would never see the light of day.

I absolutely believe that story. My sister in law would leave family dinners early to watch "Sex and the City" when it was poplular years ago. I think she wanted to identify with Carrie, and I'd think to myself "You're a nurse married to a guy who mows the grass for the post office. And you live in Buffalo. Get a grip."
