I did not mean to come across as judgemental, and I can only speak of teachers in my area. Some make $75,000 and for 8 months of work, I think that's pretty damn good. I also have friends who are teachers, and my gripe isn't with teachers as individuals or with good teachers, it's with the unions. I certainly know what it's like to work with kids who are pains in the ass, as I worked in a kids' mental hospital. I got paid crap, but I loved the job. I think we all know that some people go into the teaching field because of the perks; they're shit teachers, and then they make tenure so they can't get fired. I think that's wrong. If you suck at your teaching job, you should lose your job like anyone else in any other field.

I probably should have clarified my last remark--I was troubled by what I thought was a sweeping generalization of all teachers. I agree with everything you just said above, Malbert. While I have known stellar teachers, I also have had the misfortune of dealing with some whose abilities leave something to be desired. Okay, a LOT to be desired!

And my friends would KILL to make $75K as teachers. Maybe they should move to the Buffalo area?
