Raindrops on the Sun. The lyrics are probably some of the best on the album, but i agree, the song just doesn't work.

track 10 puts itself as second track which is annoying ..... I had to put it as track 99 to make it come last...

but I am loving the album now....

love the lyric s on The Party's Over

shooting stars, falling from a constellation
heading for no destination
shooting stars
that's what we are

shooting stars
falling from a constellation
beautiful disintergration

shooting stars is what we are....

Says it all poetically really...

the meaning of life right there in a nutshell...

also think the track is very Motown which is not a bad thing.....kind of like the wonderful
My Cherie Amour..... it kinda has that spacey beautiful magic....

Shaz, after many listens The Party's Over is the standout for for me. The chorus, I kind of knew it instantantly, I could almost sing along to it straight away.

Crsytal Days -same here.Love that song

Raindrops.....just does nothing for me because it sounds like the Pink Panther tune!Plus weakest vocal on the album struggling to hit the chorus.

Here is what I am thinking after several listens. A few songs are among the worst he has ever written. A couple songs are as good as anything on the last Ian record and last Bunnymen record. I would agree that this sounds like a mixture between Slideling and the Fountain with a hint of Candleland and WAYGDWYL. I think the melodies and his voice are great on this album, but some of the lyrics are shite. 5 good, 5 not so good.

Best 5:
-Watch Me Land- the best song. sounds like it could have been on any Bunnymen album since Evergreen. I actually love this track.
-Empty As A House- Another great tune. Sounds like it could be on WAYGDWYL
-The Party's Over- I don't know why? This needs Will. No party without him. lost opportunity. Could be an amazing Bunnymen track. It feels naked, lots of empty spaces.
-Raindrops On The Sun- not so crazy about the lyrics, but still ok. It could be another WAYGDWYL tune.
-Fiery Flame-This one has grown on me. I can dig it.

Worst 5:
-Somewhere In My Dreams - these lyrics suck. I can't even listen to this one, even though the strings and melody are nice enough.
-Me And David Bowie- another shit lyric and I love David Bowie. Also horrible backing vocal. good melody though.
-Different Trees- terrible opening lyrics. Is this what I am in for? Maybe it would be better in the middle of the album.
-Pro Patria Mori- This could be good if you took off the backing vocals.
-Lift Me Up- I am not sure about this one. It falls somewhere in-between best and worst. It's not bad, but it bores me.

I give it a 6 out of 10.

I'm doing an OCD cleaning of my kitchen this a.m. and will put "PPM" on for company. Maybe if I'm concentrating on something else and it's more of a background thing my opinion about it could be a teensy weensy more positive.

That's how I got to love "Burned". Had it on while I was cleaning my basement.

Is that an Americanism for 'washing my bottom'?

I have to point out that out of your "best 5", 2 still have criticisms.

For me the production, especially the backing vocals sounds cheap and canned like they just dialed up some ooo's and ahhh's in the mixing software. It's hard to get past that for me. I really wanted to like this album too.

So the most of you guys could make a better record than Ian did. Too bad you are wasting your time filling this messageboard instead of making your masterpiece.

Ever since WAYGTDWYL i read the same stuff whenever a new EATB- or Mac-album comes out. The sound is lame, the lyrics aren't great, oh no wait, it grows on me, it has something although I can't explain what, blah blah blah.

For me Ian made another great album with some lyrics that make me reflect on how my life and the lifes of my beloved ones have evolved over the past years. The good things and the bad things that we went through, the whys and hows we coped with things etc...

Just like us, Ian isn't the 20-30 year old rocker he was during the EATB part I days so it's more than normal that his way of composing music has changed. It is much more natural to act like he does than to pretend that he is still the naïve youngster that will rebuild the world to a better place.

As for the lyrics, me too could do it with less oohs, aahhs and lalalaas and some of the songs could be a minute shorter instead of repeating the same frases over and over, but hey, if it's okay for mac than it'll be okay for me. After all, it is his work and he is old and wise enough to do the things the way he wants them to do.

So for me Pro Patria Mori is just DULCE ET DECORUM (sweet and fitting)!
