Weller - Sonic Kicks

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Weller - Sonic Kicks

Postby fat cherry » Wed Mar 21, 2012 5:32 am

Just bought the new weller album, sonic kicks. Not sure why - he's one of those itches i scratch now and again and then wonder why. Wild Wood was the last thing I bought - one good track on it i think. Hasn't done anything absolutely amazing for about 35 years (all mod cons, what an album!!) - perhaps there a pattern emerging in my tastes there. Anyway, anyone else heard this. Not all bad though its a bit like he's just discovered 'the synthesiser' and decided the best way to go is to switch everything on full. Not a terribly bad way to go but not sure he pulls it off, the excerimental thing, that is. As I mentioned when we discussing the sarges new stuff, the really good thing about getting all experimemntal is knwing when to stop. Apparently weller has the same attuitude to babies, he's got seven sprogs now. Anyway, interesting in places but perhaps he's missing someone special who'll say, no paul, thats awful. Perhaps its a grower. Actially on that last album the one foxton played on was the best thing he's done for about 35 years. P{erhaps its time for the jam reunion. lol

Good then FC? I don't like the lead single That Dangerous Age (the one that sounds like Blur). Only heard the tracks The Attic and Around the Lake before. It's probably being streamed somewhere.

I've always thought most of Weller's stuff was excremental.

i'm still reeling from him splitting up the jam. I could understand that in a way, I suppose, but then he went and formed the style council. Been waiting for a return to form ever since.

Graham coxon plays ona few which might explaing the blurishness of some of it. It only occurred to me this mornign that that is who it sounds like in places - with the exception of the one which goes a bit dub reggae at the end. Thats probably one of the better moments. Ask me again in five years and I'l tell you if its a slow burner.

Wow, good hair is that important to you in an aging musician? You must never listen to any Bunnymen or Mac stuff.

Does anyone like The Style Council? My wife pretends to.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I was all set to hit "submit" on this kick-ass joke about your "pretend marriage", when a little voice inside my head said, "That sounds douchey." So I did not send it. Where is that voice coming from, and why is it talking to me? I'm frightened.

still reeling after 30 years? If the Free Nationalized Health Care on your tiny island nation covers psychotherapy, you may want to consider it. Sounds like you have issues, buddy.
