Jonny Marr he plays guitar

interview in latest uncut mjagazine. One of those Q&A things from readers, with a few celeb things thrown in. Anyway one question was about the infamous mac sessions. Said he always liked mac's voice etc. Still sticking to the 'tapes got stolen from a van' line - and i'm sure its true. Mentions lowdown and another one that ended up on Burned as stuff that did see the light of day, plus says he played on what became nothing lasts forever. And the killer sting in the tail 'we did some good stuff (paraphrasing here), the problem was with the lyrics' ooooooh.

Probably wise due to health and safety issues.

I've never seen a Lexus going any faster than 32mph.

If I woke up one day and realized I'd paid $50,000.00 for a Toyota I'd never drive it over 32 either.

It's like the kiss of death. I used to like this band back in the days of boring indie (circa 2002) whose first album was produced by Marr. Lots of jingly jangly guitar and actually quite decent/polished as a live band. Split up after their second album (not produced by Marr I believe), but I blame Marr.

he said:

What is the story behind the demos you recorded with Ian McCulloch in the early 1990′s?

I always enjoyed Ian’s voice, and Ian and I recorded an album’s worth of songs in 1992 or ’93, a few of which – ‘Lowdown’ and another I can’t remember (‘Too Far Gone’) – saw the light of day under the name Electrafixion. And I demoed what became ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’. The first 10 days of us writing together was very creative, and then it lost track in sort of Mancunian/Scouse haze. It’s a long story which ends with the hijacking of the van that the master tapes were in, on its way from my house in Manchester to Ian’s place in Liverpool. Apparently the robbers were after a shipment of liquid oxygen! And the tapes never came back. It’s actually a great way for that project to have ended. We had some pretty good days. It’s the lyrics that were the problem…

apropos of not much.....Just reading Tracey Thorn's memoir - not a band I've been interested in but she provides a slightly different view of the 80s. What's this got to do with jonny boy you ask? Well I didn't know that weller worked with them (eh??) and that they were also supported in the press etc by morissey & marr. jonny got matey with ben watt in particular and used to meet up with him going to buy guitars and suchlike - jonny, not ben, cos he despite hing a couple of hit singles under his belt was still pauper. But then I remembered noel gallaher saying he sent jonny a demo and jonny called him up inviting him to go guitar shopping. So is this jonny's technique to annoy and show off to young hopefuls? Like I said, not much.
