I'm talking about his actual voice.

Electrafixion is Mac's new found "vocal ferocity"
or "shot"

Evergreen era voice is excellent for what it is.

I thought his voice was good up through WAYGTDWYL, then that Avalanche EP came out and it was noticeably different maybe because they re-recorded some earlier songs and they just sounded wrong in his newer voice.
After that it just kept going downhill. Mac was never pitch perfect in the live shows and that's not what I'm talking about, but there was a point from Flowers and after where in the live shows he was just honking through songs and pulling his mic away to hide the straining, it was dreadful.
I must say that around the time of the Ocean Rain shows he was more back in form.

I agree, and I wonder what he did to accomplish that.

Maybe they just rehearsed more? I always got the impression that post Evergreen, it was Will and the hired guns and then Mac would show up to do his thing and then leave. With these Ocean Rain shows maybe Mac just worked a little harder since his legacy was on the line. I'll ask next time I see him.

I get what you're saying about the vocals being stylistically different with Electrafixion. The performance on "Holy Grail" is top notch; I think he sounds even better on the live version with the 2 cd set. Will's guitar is fab as well, and I think it's one of the best song they've done together.

I really like that song.

If they did one song from the Electrafixion days
then that should be the one.

They should try and acknowledge that period

I agree, and it would be even better if they expanded it. One album was not enough, imho.

It would suit Mac's voice.

Lowdown is my favorite song on Burned. I pretty much like the whole album.

If the band busted out a track like Sister Pain during one of their shows I think the crowd would go nuts. (Like they do for The Cutter. Have you noticed that?)

Reverb.

Lots of reverb. And maybe a touch of auto-tune.

Was hit or miss, live. As was his voice on the WAYGTDWTSCIHIWYF? tour
What are you going to do with that sandwich can I have it when you're finished?

Downhill after that... autotune on "It's Alright"? It certainly is not alright.

I've noticed that The Cutter is probably their best live song currently. It rocks based on the recent live youtube clips I've seen of it. Mac's vocals sound decent on it most of the time.

That same Peel Session also has two pretty interesting versions of Ocean Rain and Seven Seas. Ocean Rain sounds a lot different than the album version.
