I watched Welcome Back Kotter all the time back in the day. I don't remember laughing at it very often but I had to see what the sweathogs were up to. Try watching it now as an adult. It's horrible. You can't even believe it was a TV show. Killer theme song though.

It's a lot better than the shit on tv now! And think about the shows that aren't on because they aren't "good enough". I think about that when I'm at a movie that totally blows: THIS got made into a movie?!

If you want to say that Kotter is better than 2 and Half Men I would agree to that but there have always been quality shows and really terrible shows and there are more options for both now.

There were great US sitcoms in the 70s like All In the Family, Marry Tyler Moore and Barney Miller of course but I'll take 30 Rock, Family Guy, Portlandia, Curb Your Enthusiasm over Kotter, Laverne & Shirley, or Mork & Mindy any day.

I think mainstream tv sucks; premium tv is better.

30 Rock is mainstream TV but that is the exception in my list. Maybe Family Guy too since it's a cartoon.

I happened to catch a rerun of the first Bob Newhart Show the other day and it was hilarious with great writing, not just a collection of catch phrases and funny voices with the laugh track running full blast. Kotter seemed to be trying hard to be a morality play with Gabe Kaplan's jokes used to tell the story. The problem is, Gabe Kaplan wasn't funny.

Jack is a huge fan of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and is still mad at the rest of us for not getting it.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Jack would't like it if he knew we were discussing him behind his back.
