Second Guessing The Production

Postby withahip » Fri Feb 08, 2008 3:11 pm

Ok, this is not a slag fest - rather have you listened to any tracks enough that you wish something was more or less pronounced in the track and would make it better?

"Nothing Lasts Forever" has some great backing vocals (by Mac) that would have given the song even more flavor. The do do dos would have given it a cool doo-wop feel. There was more but as I am away from the stereo right now - I thought I'd get this started.

I've been posting for years that the Bunnymen need a producer to butch them up a bit since Mac is writing really precious pop songs. Nick Lowe, Steve Albini come to mind. Or Kevin Shields would probably be my dream producer. Or shit how about Alan Wilder? Shit I'll take Ian Broudie.

No more self production though.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Not up for a Candleland II?

You mean Slideling?

At least Mac tried to rock once or twice on Mysterio.

Didn't Ray Shuman produce Candleland?

And there were too many producers on Mysterio. But I always liked Honeydrip. Hee Hee Hee.

Actually, aren't the backing vocals on that Liam Gallagher?

or did I miss the point entirely?

Oops oops oops.

Ok, so what I mean by second guessing production is, are there string parts, backing vocals, other parts that, if more pronounced, would make the song even better!

Do you hear female vocals at the end of All Because of You Days? After the four minute mark? I know I talk a lot of shit but I still love that song and Avalanche. I wish they would re-record Avalanche so it wasn't so muddy sounding. That was truly the Bunnymen meet Electrafixion. I wonder whose song that was. Mac or Will's?

On the "Avalanche" front (since you mentioned it)... and seeing as people have commented on it's production... are the versions of "classic" songs on there just the same old tracks, or are they new versions?

I ask because it's one of those things I've never snagged a copy of, and have wondered how much I should value it (ie: is it 2 new songs and 4 re-releases, or 2 new songs and 4 re-recordings)?

Just curious...[/img]
