I have to say...this performance wasn't that bad. The voice was good (gasp!), the music was sound and it looked like he shaved.

The rambling stuff in between is because he thinks of himself as a raconteur and he was actually attempting to playfully interact with the audience.

I don't see EATB anymore. My last show was Oct 2009. But I must admit, to hear Lips Like Sugar with the Bowie stuff (especially "when you rock and roll with me") inserted tugged on the heart strings.

You're not mocking my Lord and Savior Tim Tebow are you??

As someone who has only returned to EATB after a decade away I find these shows car-crash compelling. Ian seems bored, resentful and cornered - is he quoting his own new song (Castle in a dream) during the breakdown of 'Lips..'? He seems to have little respect for anyone around him, including Wil and himself...but occasionally the music pushes them above everything despite it. Coming back to them after all these years I'd have expected them to be slick and professional, safe and predictable like most of their peers...its a pleasant suprise to see and hear how real, flawed and majestic they still are...

Good points T - that's how I feel too. It's not plodding musos going through their paces is it? There is something raw and real (and a bit sad) about Mac live now.

Raw and real? A voice scarred by ciggies, drinking and cocaine who can't hit the notes to the songs or remember the lyrics.

You like that he looks bored?

That's not raw- that is simply unprofessional and washed up.

But the alternative for 50 something popstars is what? Comfortable and safe and running through the greatest hits 'for the fans' and the pension?

Sometimes he's a pain in the arse, sometimes he's bonkers and sometimes he's a genius. What Mac will never be is predictable and boring.

Sometimes I chuckle at the fact I get upset when rock star divas act like rock star divas.

Hitting my 30's was the worst thing that ever happened to me.

There is a fine line between growing old and still be cool and coming across as a sad old geezer. Mac crosses the line both ways, sometimes at the same time!

Mac is Mac, he's like Jim Morrison wild and not always in control. He's also like Lou Reed a miserable bastard, but I still think he's the best. I can't believe people like Mr. Cheese and with a-hip come on here always and say how shit Mac is and how shit there concerts are and how they wont buy there cd's because there also shit. If you hate them why do you even care anymore, just because you where a fan many years ago. There are bands I use to love and now I don't anymore I don't go to there websites, and say how shit they are, I suggest if you hate the band and Mac then move on get a life.

Very true Joe - it does seem that some on here just to moan about how bad it all is nowadays rather than accepting EATB warts an all!

That is exactly what he is doing, but out of tune.

The alternative?

Call it a day and go make music on your own that is better than anything your band has put out in the past 20 years.

Or, as a band, make some good music and tour healthy

That's bullshit. Just accept crap? So if EATB puts out The Fountain again with another cover I guess we just have to accept it.
