Mac's New Album.

Postby crystal89 » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:20 am

Well, from the first couple of preview tracks,
it's a lot better than The Fountain, but then a colonoscopy
is much better than that.

And what a unique way, to make loads of money, by doing it
as a Pledge drive, some real gems in there!!

Signed albums, lyric books, an album playback with Mac!,
and Mac's guitar, won't need that for a while!!, oh and
a microphone!!

Also, credit to the Bunnymen Management, they said that the solo
albums would be out early Spring, and they've not let us down.

Just got to wait till October for the Bunnymen's new record.

That Lift Me Up sample does sound more like a proper Mac solo song, or even a grey album track for once. Not him trying to sound like another band or thinking it's what the kids want. Would need to hear more to part with my £12 though.

The £1000 guitar, wonder if it's Pinky?

Anyone think Mac would start anything off with

"Hello Pledgemates. It's Ian McCulloch here."

Anyhow I'll still buy the album even though I'm expecting about 8 acoustic ballads and two mid tempo pop songs.

Hello Pledgemates

It’s Ian McCulloch here, letting you know about the new solo album project i’m currently working on. I’m in the studio and I feel it’s the same magic in the air as I felt when recording “The Killing Moon” and “Nothing Lasts Forever”, amongst others.

The album will be available through PledgeMusic, who release records (and records,as in my lyrical and melodic records-records, are what they are) in a totally different, exciting, and personal way to anything that i’ve ever experienced before.

I’ll let PledgeMusic tell you the details of the various and infinitely superior services they provide compared to others.

Suffice to say, I’m thrilled about it all again. I just want to say that I can’t wait for the people – you people – to hear these songs and share your feelings about (or Heavens to Murgatroyed, your lack of), and thoughts on them. Because you already know what I think…. “Different Trees”, “Pro Patria Mori” and “Raindrops On The Sun” are the equi-greatest Holy Trinity of songs ever written.

Sincere thanks and love for your love and belief.

Ian McCulloch XXX

Maybe it will be a comedy album with all his greatest jokes and one liners from throughout the years.

he's got a sense of humour at least, holy trinity my arse. At least he wasn't permanently put off by the avalanche experience. And he's having to flog a guitar to fund it too. All this charity bollocks makes me wary. Still, a mans got to do etc. so a quick calculation says theres about 100K left for 'us' to put up. VB - best get those nightshifts booked.

The lips with strings, oo er missus, sounds quite nice but not sure i need yet another version of that. The other one sounds like mac-by-numbers, lift me up blah blah. What happened to the mac who wouldn't have written i will follow, but i will lead?

I am not really impressed with the snippet of the track to be honest - it sounds dated compared to what I am listening to these days, at least sounding like it was recorded in 1987 - just surprised a little as it does sound more like a song by the Mac of old. Even the vocals to a certain extent. What you'd expect from Mac a few decades ago. I can imagine him singing that back then or it being an outtake of the grey album. At least from listening to some of Mac's solo stuff later and thinking that the odd song was alright (Proud to Fall, Magical World, Honeydrip, In My Head and Kansas mostly), I'd be interested to hear more but at the moment I'm still more waiting [not so] patiently for Will's solo stuff. If Will produces a crap album, I'm out of here... forever.

Ah well. I don't mind 'dated', I suppose I wasn't expecting contemporary. Mac's been saying for years he doesn't listen to new music.

What do you think Mac trying to sound contemporary would sound like, though? If you had a say about the musical direction.

Ooh, a difficult one. Mac sounding contemporary given as a solo singer he hasn't been contemporary for a long time? Dunno really other than he's not the kind of stuff I listen to anymore, mostly weird obscure bands, bands that are putting a different perspective on something I have heard before or bands/artists that I listened to from my early 20s and didn't jump on a bandwagon later, as I did with the Bunnymen. Not that I like him, but even Noel Gallagher's stuff doesn't sound contemporary does it - some it still sounding like Oasis circa 1995 or something out a decade or so ago, yet he is enjoying success and you can't wrong him for that. In the Bunnymen's case though the only band I think of for comparison is The Horrors, although they sound more like The Chameleons circa 1983. Maybe an album of full of uptempo dark tracks that sound like November might be suffice. I really don't know do I?

I love The Horrors. Sometimes I wish they'd invented a time machine, just so that the Bunnymen could have gotten Faris in to replace Mac at the time. I generally wish to see what he would be like, fronting the Bunnymen.

Exactly

How is he going to do this when he keeps abusing his audience?

It has been SO BORING in the EATB camp for a long time.
The only excitement has been that Mac has a visible breakdown on stage in Glasgow.

Unfortunately it is so sad that one feels bad about reading the numerous reviews and attention it received.

Now I read fans are feeling let down again after Liverpool last night.
The blaming of the band, the equipment or the audience has to stop.

The ludicrous rantings during songs and the stopping and starting of songs.

You would think after Glasgow that he might learn a lesson.

What is wrong with him?

Has the alcohol finally taken over?

Is there no decent 'shake' around?

Has the girlfriend the same age as his daughter maybe matured and moved on?

Something is very wrong somewhere and it does not bode well.

How on earth the band put up with this is anyone's guess.

He needs help before it is too late.

He is making Ossie Osbourne seem sane.
