1st Bunnymen show

Postby Mr. Brian » Tue Nov 15, 2011 11:23 am

Today is the 33rd anniversary of the Bunnymen's first gig at Eric's in 1978. Was anyone here at that show?

As I understand it, this was as an opener for Teardrop Explodes and they played a 20 minute version of Monkeys.

If I were there, I probably would have cried for my mommy, being four years old. :D

Funny you should mention KISS--I thought they were really scary. There was a KISS special on TV that was on about that time that gave me nightmares.

Gene Simmons scared the hell out of me in the movie Runaway when I was a kid.

I would have been nine; I didn't know who they were until I was 13 or so. I did know about U2 when I was 10, (as I've mentioned in the past but want to repeat for the full on annoying factor for you non-U2 fans/ Bono haters) and they were pretty much it for me for a couple of years. And as for Gene Simmons? He still scares me!

You can get an injunction for that kind of thing.

Well, my 4-year-old self was scared of the freakish makeup, ugly outfits, and platform boots.... my older self is appalled at the "music"...

...and Gene Simmons' tongue. Shannon Tweed aka Mrs Simmons must like it though.

a mate of mine, from cumbria somewhere or other, has always been since i've known him a jazz and blues bloke. for some reason he seems to have thought I was too, maybe because we used to jam a bit with the geetars, back in the day, and well, 12 bar was about all i could muster. Anyway met up again after several years a while back and he was on about some old jazz bloke so i pointed out that though i dont mind a bit here and there i had a bit of an obsession with the bunnymen. So he raises an eyebrow and says, bunnymen? me and my mate used to go down to erics in liverpool, saw em a few times. True story. Dunno if he was there for the first one though.

Chez.
