oh no, not another U2 thread...

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

release it with a bigger price sticker on it.?

Did I just really read this?:

"Coldplay was voted Best Act in the World Today"
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

At least Chris Martin is honest..

"U2 are the best band in the world at the moment [according to Q magazine, but in the wider world that is debatable]. We are about seventh," he said.

Seventh is debatable also. Hundredth maybe. Successful band as opposed to best band, hmm.

This doc "From the Sky Down" aired on Showtime last weekend, and of course, I had to dvr it (we were having a Halloween party when it was on). I absolutely loved it. Will I purchase the re-release? Maybe......but the iTunes version just out is not something I feel I need. One thing I got from the show is that yes, Bono is a control freak, but the other members seem to be fine with it 95% of the time. And it's his leadership, if you will, that got the band where they are. Another thing is not once did any band member say that the band was breaking up (or on the verge of it) because of alcohol or drug related issues. I found the bit about the Berlin Wall very touching and humorous as Bono said they went out looking for some fun but wound up in a crowd who wanted the wall put back up. I'm still a bricklayer....

The rumours are being started here in Ireland that U2 are thinking of splitting up - there was an article where one of Bonos friends was taking about it.

I reckon they are looking at how the REM split thing goes from a financial and sucess point and then decide how they go about it ..

In the meantine the rumour mill is begun to get the word out .. very clever really ..

Probably would make a fortune alone from a farewell tour, getting all those punters (fools) into the stadiums to watch Bonio, tee edge and co for one last time. Makes sense that split does in their case.

U2's music still sells. Their concerts still sell out.

REM's albums haven't sold and Stipe hates touring. REM realized they suck (20 years too late) and stopped.

Wel, they realized there was no money to make off of making music, too.

1) I disagree that REM sucks, though I can't really handle anything after "Green," which was released in 1988. It went downhill from there.

2) The last album from U2 I liked was "The Joshua Tree". Same thing as REM.

3) I like how Bono worked in a reference to his iPod Nano (if he's shilling for Apple in interviews, they must be paying him good money for it).

EDIT: Wow, no one noticed my horrendous typo!

Well, I disagreed with your blanket statement--not that REM has NEVER sucked. I think any band has a hard time putting out great inspired music after 30+ years.

@0 years too late -

30+
minus 20
____

equals the 12 years or so they were good.
