why stay hidden?

Because then everyone will have PROOF that I am a loser. I prefer to keep it at the level of strong suspicion. As admin, you are bound by the principles of user-admin confidentiality, and thusly cannot reveal the loserosity of any user.

Actually, I used to have it set that way on the old forum cause it never logged you out. I just set it the same way here. Any other questions, Mr. Curiosity?

I know. And it's easy to figure out who's hidden from who is posting and who's name is shown below.

I like to be hidden because if I need to edit a post (from typos) the dreaded "edited on" line doesn't show up.

If you use the Google Toolbar it has an option for a spell checker that will underline any suspected typos so you can correct them manually or with a right click. I just thought I'd mention that.

Sometimes, I keep the site up on one tab all day, but I don't want it to look like I'm hanging out on the site all day.

Also, it comes in handy when I want to stealthily post a smartass retort to one of JackT's bullshit comments.

If it were a feature I could turn on/off, without having to go into my profile, blah, blah, blad... I would probably show up as visible sometimes.

Oh, as for the "edited on" - that only shows up if someones posted after you in a thread.

This is a very valid reason for staying hidden.
