Gordy, Stephen, Nick, Jez

I listened to the Bunnymen perform their live show at the O2 Academy in Oxford, UK last night, thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. Through this superb recording I relived moments of the shows I saw in California. But what I was reminded of again was how tight this band is, performing flawlessly for the two or so hours they were on stage. Yeah, we don’t have Les and Pete up on stage like old times, nor has Ian picked up the guitar in decades, but Gordy, Stephen, Nick and Jez are all solidly doing their part to back up Will and Ian. Gordy’s been doing it for 10 years already. I personally think they are really good and if we weren’t haunted by ghosts of Bunnymen past we’d probably all notice that fact. I want to give them full credit for what the band is when they’re up there on the stage.

It occurs to me that Mac and Will have themselves a Bunnymen cover band.

Touch your nose and point.

They are like their own tribute to themselves, if you see what I mean.....

What, both at once? You do realise Jack is an American.

I would imagine as more bands' aging members retire/quit/expire, we'll be seeing more of this in the future...

I saw Peter Hook last night and he's mastered Ian Curtis' voice. Talk about cover bands. His lead guitarist was smoking the stage.

Just saw them twice recently. Absolutely fantastic. I think people have it all wrong about Peter Hook. If you actually take the time to talk to him, he's not at all like what the cynics say. Good for him for taking this out on tour.

I should have the recording of the Denver show up soon.

Both the audience and I throughly enjoyed the bands performance. I can't imagine what it would have been like if it were 1979.

Looking forward to hearing that show! Thanks for posting (in advance). I was skeptical from reading too much but then later realized America never got to see JD so just to see a piece of that history (even now) was mindblowing. The shows were spectacular. The singing was great, the band was tight and well...... hearing those albums in their entirety + the bonus songs was amazing! These shows weren't about making money, they were well into playing the songs and making people happy. PH was lovely as well during the brief chat I had with him. Well impressed by the whole thing and the rest of the skeptics/fans are missing out if they don't go to see them.

I think it's great that bands mix the group up a little with age, young and older. Nice variation. Bringing it back to the original Bunnymen post, I was listening to the 'Do It Clean - Live CD" today and 'Over the Wall' just cements the fact that this band is still a force to behold. Love the current line-up.
