It may shock some of you that I have always been an advocate of punctuation outside of the quotation mark, but it's true. And yes, only one space after the period, please.

And the oxford comma? Someone mentioned that to me (of all people) the other day. I nodded politely, made my excuses and wemt and looked it up on the internet. As with most things I'm still undecided.

I was taught that the serial (Oxford) comma is optional; however, I prefer to use it. If others (just as correctly) choose not to, I don't fault them on it. All the English majors I know prefer the use of this comma over omitting it.
