Well any of you heard Mac sing at either Liverpool Cathedral or Union Chapel this year then you may think on those songs he is at his peak as well...

changing is one thing but its all over the bleeding place on this recording. Its either good or it isn't. I can live with it sounding different but it'd be nice to be in tune now and again. Maybe union chapel etc were good days but I wasn't there.

I think the last itme the you toos took a risk was bringing out the unforgettable fire. Joshua trees a step on and though they dabble a bit they always go back to that formula. Mind you putting the bass player's nob on an album cover was a bit, you know, iffy.

Too fucking right Smithy, the least they could do before passing judgement on a gig is to actually go there and hear it. Some of the stay at home reviewers are doing my nut in.

Absolutely!! Spot on.....

The thing is that people are critisising his voice on the live cd of material originally recorded in Mac's youth. That is why we are saying that it is bound to change (ie compared to when that particular material was originally recorded)...
I don't think U2 could play a gig of Under a Blood Red Sky material and sound anywhere near as close to their young sound as the Bunnymen do on this live cd of thiers...
the Bunnymen still sounds vital, edgy, raw and passionate. I don't think (judging
by U2s flacid performance at Glasto ) that U2 could pull it off ( :-) ).......

Dave. Mac's voice went around the age of 34 just before the formation of Electrafixion. Maybe he didn't give a flying frig about it when it went like that - or perhaps he did. Who knows. Age has probably done more since, naturally, but it's not that far out from how it sounded circa 1994. The below could be a good day Mac recording done last week:

gave it another whirl tonight and OK I am being a bit harsh because some of it is really good, but, say, happy death men and with a hip are pretty bad vocally. The band is really consistent and everythjing shaz says. But even so i can't ever ever ever forgive his pronunciation of the word 'heaven' as heavorrrn on with a hip. I guess my fanboy days are over. sniff.

Skip that one then and your 10 squid is a winner :-)

So now we've established that it is a great effort of performing the old stuff we
need some new raw, edgy, atmospheric, romantic, poetic music from them ......

I have been undecided about whether or not to order this CD, and from the mixed reviews here, I'm still undecided. Thanks for all your help, mates.

Didn't order it myself either girlwithnoname in the end and won't now. Excellent live show last year as a one-off experience, but leave it at that methinks.

Hear...hear. He was absolute quality that night. Nearly as good as Limahl unplugged at the Barnsley Wetherspoons two nights later.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.
