The Rabbi T Warren All That Jazz Ensemble ft. Echo and The Bunnymen

The Killing Moon - All That Jazz Mix

...back in 1984 at the peak of their 'Ocean Rain' album fame, Echo & The Bunnymen were taking five

in New York when, early one morning, they stumbled into a smokey back street dive bar where the

resident jazz band, led by Rabbi T Warren were shaking the joint.

after a few beers and a good smoke, the band hooked up with the rabbi and bashed out a stonkin'

jazz based version of one of their biggest tunes.....

and if you believe that you'll believe anything!!

Echo and The Bunnymen - The Killing Moon - All That Jazz Mix 2011.

I tried to use as many samples of the original but had to re-play the bass myself as the original

by Les Pattinson didn't have a jazzy enough sound [sorry, Les].

Samples used:-

Vocal - Ian McCulloch.

Guitar - Will Sergeant

Drums - Pete De Frietas.

also includes, on bass, piano and assorted brass - Steve Griffiths [a non-musician and proud of it!].

Recorded at k-FLANGE studio, Andalusia, Spain, July 2011.

Created, arranged and produced by Steve Griffiths - please note all original samples are the

property of the respective owners and I take no credit for anyone's original work, only for my

additional music and production work.

thanks for your constructive comments, i appreciate the fact it isn't everyone's taste and that you took time to advise me the subtle nuances of the version that you found unappealing.

you have a distinct way with words, i can only assume you are a trained journalist or creative writer?

i look forward to adding constructive comments to anything you have dedicated hours of your time to in order to provide others with free entertainment.

and 'love this great work' is similarly pithy. just that you like that. Its rubbsish and doesn't worlk on any level except that because its 'free jazz' its supposed to have, as always, some intellectual superiority or is clever or something. or, bag of shit in my opinion. thats all. I can live with that. and ivan's a tosser.

cheers cherry - appreciate your comments - everyone is welcome to an opinion - the mix ended up as a jazzy style thing totally by mistake, it was originally going to be a kind of techno affair, but it just developed. i'm no big jazz fan and i agree that jazzers have an unfoundedly high opinion of themselves. i also took some inspiration from the 'life at brians' version of killing moon as featured on channel fours 'play at home' back in the 80's - which was jazz tinged.

as to what levels it works on, i'm still not sure, but various reactions from other sources have been great and i'm made up that various liverpool music types last night gave it the thumbs up.

I liked it . I tell ya one thing -- if the buns came out with something like that instead of some of the fountian (it is want the kids want) songs I would not be complaining..

What the kids want is something imaginitive and differents - they are always searching for something unique.

So then, what's the motivation for this kind of dabbling?

cherry, you're missing my point - i don't want any in depth critique.

i accept you don't like it and i don't give a hoot - so far it's only you who has been negative about it.
