I hate to break this to you, but the larvae are already in there - the expiration date is so you eat the product before they have a chance to hatch!! (There's a maximum allowable parts-per-million allowed by food safety regulations...)

not doing me any harm by "breaking it" to me... still sounds like an urban myth, "parts per million" or not. As for the expiration date/hatching connection - yeah, that's utter crap... another gradeschool myth

If your bugs in the pasta/rice mix story IS true (though I find it hard to swallow), infestations usually happen at the home or at the grocery store. More likely in the home, as grocers have a regular extermination schedule. You get one little moth or weevil in your pantry, the go to town on the dried goods...

Sheesh - you either REALLY like R-a-R or you are a shareholder!

An excerpt from the (US) FDA Defect Levels Handbook:

MACARONI AND NOODLE PRODUCTS
Insect filth
(AOAC 969.41) Average of 225 insect fragments or more per 225 grams in 6 or more subsamples
Rodent filth
(AOAC 969.41) Average of 4.5 rodent hairs or more per 225 grams in 6 or more subsamples

DEFECT SOURCE: Insect fragments - preharvest and/or post harvest and/or processing infestation. Rodent hair - post harvest and/or processing contamination with animal hair or excreta

Las Vegas

Postby echofan1 » Fri May 20, 2011 9:56 pm

i'm crushed. It looks like everyone knew that the Las Vegas Show was cancelled except me. I just drove out to Red Rock Casino to see the show and found out. I took a vacation day from my job to see them. It would have been my sixth EATB concert. If I had known, I would have taken tomorrow night off work and driven to LA to see them. Too late for that now.
Red Rock Casino is about 20 miles from the Strip and a lot of people don't even know that they have concerts there. Too bad it wasn't at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay where they've played to capacity crowds on previous tours. I hope they don't give up on Las Vegas. I guess I'll just twist one up, have a few beers, and listen to Crocs and HUH on my stereo. Not quite the evening I had planned. :frown:
