Be out in October 2013 no doubt. Seriously though, I hope they take a bit more time actually writing songs and experimenting with the sound this time round. They are much more capable of better things than the last effort.

It'd be good to hear more of The Fountain played live. Shroud of Turin sounded particularly strong live and Everlasting Neverendless is a class song but I doubt they've played it live once?

I'd prefer it if they put the whole of The Fountain down as a bad experience and forget about that album completely. I think I bought a handful of MP3 tracks back in 2009, including Everlasting Neverendless (which I don't think was played live) and Shroud of Turin, but they are now somewhere deep inside my computer's hardrive never to be played again. I may have even deleted them as they are nowhere to be seen on the Windows media player's playlist in amongst the other Bunnymen stuff.

I wonder how many people on here that bought The Fountain in its full entirety still play the whole thing regularly? Kind of like my copy of Flowers, which now has a busted CD jewel case cover, creased insert and has been chucked in a big box of dusty CDs that never ever get played. There's some real "gems" in amongst that lot.

What do you mean "still"? I played it a few times when it first came out, was crushingly disappointed and haven't played it since.
I enjoyed the Crocs/HUH show but otherwise the Bunnymen are very low on my radar these days and I doubt I'll be able to summon up any enthusiasm to see them live again, as for a new album - just leave it!

Exactly, that's what I wondered as like you I found it terribly disappointing and the tracks that I did buy, which totalled a grand total of four, were forgotten about after a few weeks. Same situation Dr Cheese, but I would check out a new album at least through anything that appears later on the interwebs (like gig footage on youpubes). Wouldn't necessarily mean that I'd end up buying it though.

The Fountain was the first Bunnymen album I didn't bother buying. NEVER liste to WAYGTDWYL or Flowers.
Every word is like an unnecessary stain on silence and nothingness.

Gee must have been the bonus track on the Australian edition that made all the difference.

I never listen to the Fountain now, not even when I'm doing dishes.

Smiff, you dont mention that the fountain's gestation was long and presumably painful, as per the Sarge interview with that bloke from that band whose name i forget. When it was suggested that the last three albums could be cobbled together to amke a single half decent album i did try that on the old pod but got bored. haven't played any of those since. Though I do like shoroud of turin party for its sillyness and mostly for that killer sargentian riffette which is the only good thing on the album (beg to differ VB but ever lasting is rubbish). Oddly enough the only album i've played recently is the grey album, odd because at the time I felt much the same about it as i do the fountain - with the big difference that i thought (think) the cover is quite good. Was going to get tickets for the palladium but haven't and not sure ni can muster the interest. Half expecting them to annouince a warmup show atthe oxford o2(lol) in which case i'll be there. COuldn't really give a toss about the 'exclusive' label. Thought the albert hall was great and might go again if only, well you know how it is.

I prefer they do this than bring out the fountain mk II. Though some time ago there was a discussion on here on whether the bunnymen should sell out, or something. I believe i suggested that they would need something to sell in order to do that and that they were too late in their career blah blah - or some usual boolcks i tend to write. But perhaps this is it.

Chez.

i really liked this when it came out but gone in the opposite direction. Agree about the LIL versions but dont listen to that either. King of Kings is a great song as is the title track. SHould have been a single.

"Jammed out" is probably the best course of direction to take, if that's what Mac means. Just turn up and see what happens and then add the lyrics/vocals afterwards. The masses and the kids will not give a flying frig about a new Bunnymen album so it really does not need eleven Mac-penned pop ditties with song titles and lyrics about being in love. If they can't do something vaguely interesting evolving from a jamming session(s) with the use of a full band who they have been working with for a number of years now, then perhaps they should give up this music lark altogether.
