I think everyone is! Even if we were talking about Mac in his prime, I couldn't rate him higher than people like Daltrey or Freddie in their prime.

I could.

i dont think he (mac) is at all, in the usual; sense. In the early days (in my timeline that is) that was something that attracted me to them - the all stand in a line covered in smoke thing etc it was a band where the singer wasn't a nobhead and no more important than the rest of the band (my mistake perhaps). Their ability to whoop an audience into a frenzy (sorry, did i just say whoop, maybe i meant whip) was based on the music and looking cool. Same went for the Furs when i first saw them. Wossname the singer just stood there and oozed coolness. Whereas traditional frontmen are more likely to do the whooping thing. I'd agree daltrey has/d it though it was always clear from the rambling introductions from townshend who was the leader of the band, but rog had his chest, golden mane and that swinging the microphone thing going on. I left Queen behind shortly after a night at the opera and took almost no notice until fred popped his clogs and only then realised what a good frontperson he was. Sorry fred... too late for me. Buns could probably benefit from a bit whooping these days. Or at least a bit of enunciation now and again.Actually i think they ought to introduce a Bez type character who just dances and waves a pair of maraccas around. That'd do it for me. Peasey meandering over the stage with a lit ciggie for the singer isn't quite the same.

I'll wave my maraccas around for 'em, though I doubt 42 year old maraccas will sell any records for them.

I don't think I can say anything about waving maraccas around, so I won't.

Hilarious!

Mac isn't a great frontman in the true showmanship sense but he is extremely charismatic with BIG energy that can be felt whilst he does fuck all. This goes a long way and a quality few people let alone frontmen/women have.

Most performers resort to ridiculous simulated sex antics on stage and pyrotechnics with outrageous freight bills for their stage set up.

Not EATB though - lights off, sunglasses, drink & ciggie in hand and the audience being told to shut up with the occasional punch up with audience members.

The knock knock jokes being the real low point may knock him out of the top 100 though.

I'll zip up my maraccas then, if they're not valued.

Mac with a guitar is the most charismatic front man I have ever seen. For the ladies it's Natalie Ribbons.

I know it's not cool here but Axl Rose was a pretty bad ass front man. A young Danzig was a bad motherfucker too.

Others I like are Dave Gahan, Wayne Coyne and Joey Ramone.

Jaz from Killing Joke is an incredible frontman, don't know why he wasn't in the NME list. And what about Robert Smith or Siouxsie? But of course my vote went to Mac!!
