What genre' of art are you into?

What form of art is your favorite? Whom are your favorite artists? What genre' of work is your favorite?

I have to say one thing, last night, I saw a movie that was probably one of the best (if not the only) movie on Vincent Van Gogh's life. It was very artistic but, historical in nature too. It was called, Vincent & Theo. It was a portrayal of the artist's life but also, it described the relationship w/ his brother, Theo. It was thoroughly intensive in describing his relationship too & the downward spiral of his psychosis.

Even though his art makes me nauseous I really like HR Giger and will probably get something like this (predictably Danzig related) tattooed on one of my arms

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Hey, that's interesting. That almost looks like a person I've met in dreams I've had (when I've slept)....

I like Van Gogh, Gorey, Munch, Bjarni Jonsson, Erro', Þórarinn B. Þorláksson, Renoir, religious renaissance art, da Vinci, Cezanne, Pissaro, Toulouse-Latrec etc.

i like matisse. that book that was put out with leonard cohen's "dance me to the end of love' set to matisse's artwork made me familiar with his work. it's bizarre. but i like it.

edward gorey is weird too, but i'm a huge fan!

HR Giger is amazing. a friend of mine did an art project on him in college - its where i learned of his creepy weird bar in switzerland. i think there may have been one in tokyo too, but i don't know if its still there...

http://www.hrgiger.com/barmuseum.htm

the photos are amazing... a spinal-cord staircase and all... very creepy/weird/bizarre. if i ever find myself in switzerland i will try to go, but chances are i will only ever get to see photos.

for my own personal artistic taste, i like modern art and design. salvador dali is always a fave, warhol and lichtenstein are fab for the pop art, and i like the fantasy realm like HR giger and Boris Vallejo and Alex Ross - comic/sci-fi related stuff. i also love a lot of the new artists that are making it big like tokidoki, tara mcpherson, gary baseman and shepherd fairey (OBEY giant).

tara mcpherson did this lovely bunnymen poster for the sxsw festival in 2006

Now that would make for a tattoo. I'd have them doing a buddies handshake or something though.

as big as that is, you'd have to get that on your back ... save your stomach for the dancing hula girl

an old boss of mine has a painting of Elvis and Hank Sr. at the gates of heaven.

That doesn't leave a whole lot of room for a heart that says "Mother"

I can't even conceive the awesomeness of your former boss' painting. I'd probably drop dead upon sight of its glory.

Is bitching an art form?

he had a whole elvis shrine going. but that was before he met his future wife in a personals ad. I think it all got put away after he got hitched.

I think there's a federal law that requires "Mother" to be tattooed on your upper arm
