27 September: U2 support Echo and the Bunnymen in London's Lyceum Ballroom.

U2 was scheduled to perform here in Denver last June, but a back injury caused Bono to cancel. I had bought 4 tickets for the whole family. They have since rescheduled the show for May 21st. When given the option, I chose to go see the Bunnymen perform on the 21st in LA. The family parties in Denver with Bono on his monster stage amidst 75,000 people, I'll be high on tequila in LA, standing in front of Will and Ian, bathed in music and stage smoke. U2 is the support act and I'm skipping their show.

This time I'll be smart enough to not mouth off to the LAPD cops after the show.

on paper maybe but, common usage and all that, everyone thinks of the last band on as the headliner whatever it says on the poster.

Achtung is a good album. They took a real chance, calculated or not, putting out an album that diverged from the U2 formula.

this is the last yoo toos album I bought. Apart from a couple of songs - the fly one and the zoo station one i dont think it deviates at all but a natural progression from the cactus album to blandsville. One (though how it was voted the best lyric in the world by the old gits at radio 2 I dont know) is the only other good song and the rest v dull indeed. Even the picture of adam's willy on the front doesn't lift it above mediocrity. I've never heard Pop apart from 'Lemon' which amused me a bit but not enough to spend any money on it, but since then what I've heard has all been on pretty much the same post streets with no name trajectory. My mate whose a mega u2 fan was a tad disappointed with their last couple of albums, I said you ought to try folloing the bunnymen mate. He wasn't cheered up much.

Funnily enough Taylor Swift on the Ken Bruce show (yep, still listening) has just chosen 'One' as one of her 'tracks of her years'.

I really, really like The Fly. The rest of the album I can take it or leave it. I used to really like U2 then Rattle & Hum kind of soured me to them. But not or the reasons listed in Wikipedia. Shit I was 12 in 1988 so I probably wasn't thinking that deeply about it.
