The Game

Do you realise, next year this'll be 25 years old. I know, stretching it a bit but just came across this on the yootube thing.

I liked this when it came out, but not the album apart from a couple of songs. However, classic corbijn - walking along, being daft, funny hats, the beach - and Les's shorts. Whats not to like.

My favourite Bunnymen song. Massively under-rated.

I'm sure Mac had a blast. And by "blast" I mean "cocaine".

as it happens, I have the collection of corbijn videos, though hardly ever watch them. But in the interview with mac think he say's he's hung overin the cafe shots. There's also a booklet where he (AC) says something about the video:

Anton Corbijn wrote:I came to Brazil with the bunnymen to shoot a video of them while touring and a good 2 days after I arrived they changed the song I was shooting to 'The Game'. It duidn't really matter that much as there was no idea anyway apart from 'shooting in brazil'. I shot lots of stuff that was very 'bunnymen' like, oddball stuff, that we made up on the spot and gave it a direction in editing. i also shot some stuff documentary style and used that in b/w at the end of the video. the story heralds the beginning of the end for the bunnymen and you can see it in the lyrics too. Amazingly, we spotted a bat name 'BUNNY' so we shot some footage there using the sign outside as well as the bar scenes where ian [s]lipsyncs[/s] sings the song, all on a sony walkman filmed on super 8 and it help sync for 20 secs.

Didn't they almost get shot because Mac wasn't Robert Smith or something?

yep. I watched commentary on the corbiijn dvd this afternoon and when they were about to film mac up near the big jesus they were accosted by a load of military police - just mac, corbijn and someone called richard I think. Mac said something about they were stood for an hour with no shoes on with a dozen itchy triggered military police pointing guns at them and because he was so wired from the night before he didn't think it was odd at ther time. I've heard the robert smith thing but i dont think he mentions it here.

And I think the story goes that the police thought he was Robert Smith and he was holding when they stopped their car.

The part I found incredulous is that he's laughing and grinning and thinking he's the end all as he tells the story. Like it's something to be proud of.

I wonder when was the first time he ever did cocaine.

My mom's house back in 1982. We did coke and listened to Prince all night.

May we all salute your bravery in coming out and sharing that revelation with the rest of us. I'm sure it was a difficult decision but you had the balls to do it, I mean Prince, for fuck sake.

Regarding my Prince obsession you have no idea Billy. However it abruptly ended with the release of Emancipation. What a flaming pile of poo. I was 8 when Purple Rain came out and I made my parents take me to see it.

I think Appolonia's titties were my first ever.
