The Church (Winter Tour, 2011...)

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Last time they played Europe they lost loads of dough so here's hoping.Mac is mentioned in Kilbey's book.He calls him an arrogant cock!

The Church is interesting when it comes to touring. One member's son is the keyboardist. A wife is a roadie. Judging Kilbey's blog, they tour via a rented van across the US. In other words, they keep it going DIY. They seems bright enough to sell insurance back home, so they must really love what they do.

Last tour didn't they leave their equipment at home and rent stuff at each show? Or am I mistaken?
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I do not know. Judging from their equipment it was either vintage gear of theirs or crap they rented. The keyboard was an ancient Roland with nothing special about sounds it could make. The amps were dusty crusty, but with amps you really need to be a gearhead to know what is what.

Kilbey's bass was the same he used in shows I saw on youtube in other cities -

The seem to have some sense to managing their money. And Kilbey is jumping on the "let's make crappy art and sell it" band wagon.

I am not too sure myself but, they did drive w/ the van, etc.

This was in April 2010 for their 30th Anniversary tour. We got a free CD, (Deadman's Hand EP) & tour book. There was a different version though, for Australia.

They just wrapped up their tour in Oz too w/ several radio promotions before-hand & they received an award for a band achievement status, awesome. Kilbey's blog was under another link previously but, this one is brand-new as only of a few months ago. His artwork is terrific just as Will's is. Worth the $.

This tour came out of nowhere though, it was a surprise announcement to all which is fantastic!

Stab me in the neck though, I'm pretty sure they'll be a tour book for this tour but, still awaiting details.

So, did anyone here buy their tickets yet?

It'll be fun for them to experience a real, true winter here in the States. Just hope they're safe w/ their driving though b/c looking at the dates, there's not too many spaces inbetween. Still though, THREE yes THREE LPs played. Truly, worth the $.

Good luck getting tickets.

Other than the failure of Reptile - the show was excellent when they were here. It was a small turnout and they still put on an energetic show.

I wrote to the Church website. I just got a reply back from Marty on the equipment and here is what he said:

Marty Wilson-Piper wrote:

"On equipment...well some things we take some we don’t. Guitars and
pedals we take and Tim might take a snare or two and cymbals. Main
dums we get there. Amps we take a couple of smaller ones and get a
couple of bigger ones there. We don’t use a bass amp."

Holy Mackerel! I am impressed that you took the time to write & that he wrote back.

You should really try then, to see them on this tour as I hope you get to go.
As stated previously, "OMG....3 EPS!"

It took about 3 minutes. I was surprised they told me after I explained why I wanted to know and even provided a link to this godforsaken hell hole.

Kilbey will reply to you if you comment on his blog.

They aren't as big as they once were and aside from probably simply enjoying meeting people it makes good (business) sense to treat your fans right.

You know, like um, er the Bunn . . .. Never mind.

A fact I'm guessing they are about to regret.
